Hi everyone, I am new to this forum and to affiliate marketing. I am interested to hear from some experienced affiliate marketers, what you consider important characteristics for a merchant's affiliate program? Thanks, Hans
For you folks that do affiliate marketing, do you normally gravitate towrds PPA, PPC or other types of programs. I can say that as a merchant a PPA seems to make the most sense but then again I am not the most experienced at this.
I would say your first consideration would be "how do you plan to market"? Blog, Search, PPC, Adsense etc. You may need to do some research as to how you wish to promote your affiliate links. That will guide you better as to which programs/merchants will produce best for you. Keep reading this forum and you'll be assisted by many professional affiliate marketers. Welcome and good luck.
I primarily work with digital products and one of the best places to start if you want to follow a similar path is to visit and register with Click bank. They have some 9 categories with literally thousands of products, it is likely that you would find something of interest here, and registration is free. With clickbank you get paid every 15 days and you can have confidence in this, within their market place you can find stats that show what is the popular products at present, what they are paying in amounts and percentage terms. When deciding on a product visit the pitch page (sales page) whats your gut reaction? would you buy the product based upon the sales letter? If the answer is yes, you might be on to a product of interest What about assistance to you, do they provide you with ads to support your promotions? many do so if they don't move on! You will find that commissions range from 50% to 75% most commonly. The affiliate scheme is only one of many considerations you need to be aware of. You need to have a system and a method for promoting, don't go into affiliate marketing blind although easier than some other areas on the internet, there still remains a significant learning curve. Whatever you do get at least a basic education before you do anything else. Kind Regards Chris Free Report Reveals: How To Earn At Least $1,000 A Month Without Your Own Product Or Website. Hi Hans, I do affiliate management consulting and just blogged about something that may be helpful for you and it's FREE. From the 5 Star Affiliate Blog: The magazine is a free download and doesnt even require registration or email address. Tons of good articles and tips in the archives for affiliates and managers too. Hope this helps and best of luck!
You should look for a nice high EPC in CJ under the niche you are interested in. You should ask the affiliate managers for intelligence about the company and the products/services they offer. You can ask the merchant for keyword files from their reports to help with your ppc campaigns and site building. You can ask for a higher payout from the merchant. If you do all these things you will have a leg up on making some affiliate revenues. Feel free to contact me to have a deep discussion about the best affiliate programs to join.
Hi Going off at a tangent slightly here, but still related. Once you have decided on a program, whether to promote digital or non-digital products or both, what your niche will be etc. The next step is your plan so what will it look like is your aim to build foundations or pick up a sale when you can. If you acknowledge that you will need to spend time and effort getting traffic, what will you do with that traffic? Will you direct to the merchant and lose any further benefit or will you have a landing page or review page with a form capture to benefit from further promotions. Just plan out the way you want to go, but consider those foundations. Chris
Hey guys, pretty sure Hans is asking questions as a merchant NOT an affiliate. "what you consider important characteristics for a merchant's affiliate program?" I suspect he's thinking about starting an affiliate program or maybe has just launched one - so he's asking what you guys as affiliates want, not how to get started being an affiliate himself. ("he also says "I can say that as a merchant") Maybe I'm wrong, but that's what it sounds like to me.
Yes, I am definately asking the question as a merchant and not as a future affiliate. Looking at my original question, I can see why folks might have been a little confused. I was not trying to be confusing on purpose. Having said that the purpose of this thread was to see things through an affiliates eyes. I am not here specifically to recruit. If I come across that way it is purely unintentional. Thanks for all of the inputs to date. The thing i appreciate the most about this forum and others is the way affiliate marketers market. There is a lot for me to learn there. All the best, Hans
