(for the newbies registry=TLD operator, registrar=is top approved seller of the registry) Nowadays more and more registries popup trying to take a slice of the internet domain names pie All of them gather beside grandfather .com and try to take his meal I believe it's interesting to discuss how you would like to see a registry if you were approved to launch a new TLD - Which features you would like to see ? - What pricing policy you would use ? - How you would differentiate your TLD from others ? - How you would keep your TLD fresh ? For example : - I like .info because they grab you with their low price but if you want to keep the domain you pay normal price at the renewal Let us know what do you like or dislike from the current TLD operators, what do you like to fix, create new features for your own as a brand new registry operator !!
Here is an intresting thought. We know know that .info has taken off. I think this is due to the low cost of the domain for registar. Otherwise I think it would have failed.
Well, I always look at the long term when I register my domain names so the first year discount do not mean much to me because the cost of the domains are already quite low and I only buy what I intend to use. If I cannot afford the renewal fees, I would not bother signing up for it. For me, I really don't know what to expect from a registry. I supposed I am happy with the current set up since I do not deal with them directly. As for registrars, I would rather see a basic domain name only option rather than one who tries to load me with unneccessary features. This will simplify the registration process and keep cost down for me but I understand that for registrars to survive, they need to make money from other sources.
I would like to see a registry that has all the available ccTLDs, but with a very competitive price. It's annoying having to have names all over the place. I know, I'm probably dreaming..lol
You are indeed dreaming The only possible way to see all ccTLDs together is when all countries unite to one in the year 5,000,014 However keep the ideas coming, any more thoughts ?
With current rates it will exceed .net registations soon If you add also the time of these two TLDs .info has certainly an advantage However .info has not the acceptance of .net from the people I don't want to broad the topic to the registration rates, what else regarding the topic subject ?
The number of registrations reflects the law of demand, nothing more; .info is not even close to .net, and we all know that.

I like .name domains and since a couple of years ago the global registry has been offering a 60 days free trial that I have never seen available anywhere and you can register name domains at its own registry Really annoying because I also lost a third level name domain that is still free but unable to register because most registrars are not longer offering such registrations, you know "john.smith.name", in example.
