BUt how do they do it?

Well they stick with your site and ensure you reach the first page "usually" they will research high ranking keywords and make sure your ranking increases.

Will.

 

On-page/ on-site stuff like keyword research and page edits don't take long - days. The off-site stuff like link-building can take months.

 

OK. "make sure your ranking increases"

But what EXACTLY do they do???


-Build links?
-Modify your code/headers/bold/meta tags?
-Post comments on blogs?
-Submit to directories?


I understand they make sure your ranking increases, but HOW???

 

Try getting quality backlinks yourself, it takes an age.
Im only a begineer to this but i can allready see it takes hours of time, not just 5 minutes.

 

They do all those things and as others stated the building quality links takes a long time.

SEO takes time (at least to see results)

And even if i tell you most of the things a seo do your lack of experience will not let you do as the same ...

Anyway if they don't bring some results then why pay more ?
But no guarantees are in SEO when somebody they say they guarantee that's BS

 

Someone who does/ offers SEO for a living is likely to know where to go to get content/ articles/ backlinks/ blogs/ whatever. You can find out the kinds of things involved in SEO with a few days reading on the internet BUT an expert or full-time SEO will have a network and knowledgebase of suppliers that may have taken years to build up. They will also probably be managing many sites and be more aware of both short and long term trends with search engines. Guarantees are BS like w3bmaster says but there is one easy filter for SEO companies - search for SEO and those who are good rank well for the term.

 

SEO generally do On-page and off page optimization.

They'll analyzed the weaknesses of your site then suggest what should be done so that your site would be SEO friendly. On-page means optimizing the content of your site while off-page is for link building.

They analyze the keywords that the page needs to rank well for, they check out the code, quality and relevance of inbound links, what their competition is doing right (and wrong), their links, whether the site they are working on has major problems with the code and quality of the content, and so on and so on and so on - not only from a page-specific perspective but from an informational architecture POV as well.

Like hell it doesn't. It can take up to a year to see results. It's a long-term investment, not a get-rich-quick scheme.

 

unless you want to fall from whatever position they get for your keywords in the search engines, then its ongoing and should never stop. You will optimise for your companies main one or 2 keywords for the life of your company!

Only the malicious ones - the people I like to refer to as SEO frauds and con artists.

 

Unless you are obsessive about building links personally or have good knowledge about what makes links relevant, I would recommend getting good SEO help. Their sites should have good SERPs (obviously) and get recommendations. Business forums are quite useful places as SEOs often get thanked for helping businesses improve SERPs.
