Even though the chances of getting caught are slim, you need to decide if it worth the risk. It just takes one bitter competitor to report your link buying activities. Is it worth getting banned on Google just to get rankings now? A lot of time it is a better idea to just play it safe and be patient. Since Google is so against link selling/buying, expect them to come out with more sophisticated ways of detecting paid links.

I think there are plenty of people both big and small websites who buy links. My biggest advice though is to not go out and use a 3rd party (taking some of your money) to find which websites to advertise on. But, go out and find ones that are specifically related to your website, then see what they can do for you. Many are looking for advertisers, but don't know where to go.

most of my competitors buy links too, so it's tic for tac really.

you can't be successful in online business without link buying or LIMITLESS advertising budget that spreads so much brand awareness that you don't NEED google's SERPS to bring you traffic

We used to spend a LOT buying links but no longer promote this as a long term strategy. Have employed three linkbuilders for what we spent on one site alone!

But if i were to go ahead and buy...how much do you suppose I would need? would that be depending
    on the niche??

    Thanks guys

I agree with anthony82988 patience is the key, link buying could be ok if you no do it in bulk or more than necessary

I dont mind buying links as long as I know its organic in nature. My experience with buying perma links has been its on as "perma" as the web site stays online. I have seen web masters of PR 3 - 4 - 5 blogs get board and let their site go to crap.

Thus reducing the PR and eventually closing it down.

Always try to build your link naturally (or appear natural) hehe.

Buying links is okay provided they are coming from a reliable source and, of course, if they are quality links. Avoid buying links that will be listed in paid link slots or anything of that nature that will be easily picked up by the search engines as being paid.

google do not allow buying links from other websites.....you can search in this in the google webmaster section and you will find that the websites buying links will be banned by google.......either google can find this or this can be reported by someone else

Doesn't matter how much google dislikes link buying, I see a lot of SEO companies and webmasters buying and selling links here everyday. You can do it if you are ready to face the consequences or if you think you are smart enough to prevent detection of bought links.

you can buy links... but, you need to build it slowly to make it looks natural.

    and yes, patient is everything.

If you have budget for it, then go for it. But be careful when performing this strategy, make sure you buy links to those sites that are related to yours. If you get caught, you'll be penalized or even ban by search engines especially the Big G.

link buying isn't much to worry about.

    selling links is risky....:D.

if you buy relevant links at a slow pace, Google won't really bother.

Google can't really punish link buyers because it can't really determine who bought the links.

(however, getting too many links too fast can create problems).

I have had sites penalized as it looked like they were selling links. The links were from one of our own sites and it was free and it never ever sold links but the G bot is indescriminate. In fairness to Google they lifted the penalty when informed

I felt its too bad for organic SEO. Always use the valid links and do it manually otherwise you will get into trouble
