I recently had to purchase my .biz site, and use that as my domain name instead of my original .com. That’s a long story but I would like some opinions from others on how they think customers see a .biz site as opposed to a .com Do you think it would matter to customers at all? Do you think that having a domain named .com is better or more trust worthy for a business site than a .biz? Perhaps I'm just thinking to much about it, and it really doesn’t matter to people.
People are more likely to type in yourname.com than yourname.biz. People are geared to thinking dot com.
If you do all your marketing online with search engines i do not think it makes a differance. If you put website on cars and ads it will be hardr for people to remember than .com
People who are not familiar with domains may think that .biz is more credible (much like how some people think that .org is credible), but generally speaking, nothing beats .com.
Well, yeah, I agree with the rest. The .com is definitely the premium TLD to go for. I got a .biz version of my domain name just to protect it but everything points back to the .com version. That's the one most people access anyways. Well, I believe that changing domain names eruptly even if it is just a change of the TLD may confused your loyal visitors. The old .com may be already bookmarked, indexed and all that so you still be expecting a fair bit of people accessing it. It will take a while for people to get use to the new domain name. Just don't pull off the .com as yet and give it about 6 months to a year and constantly remind your visitors about the new name.
I used to think .biz was all spam before i got into marketing online...that's cuz I knew .biz were commercial sites...but people have weird assumptions about everything..Anyhow, check it out for a couple months and if it doesnt work out, use another domain name and direct that to the .biz if people dont like .biz Ana
Thanks for the input; I guess I agree with everyone’s theme here. I could see how people may see a .biz site differently. Maybe 2 sides of the fence, some may think of a more credible business, others I guess could think of spam, as stated by one member. I agree that .com is definitely more memorable, but I do do most of my marketing online so perhaps it wouldn’t have a negative effect in that respect.
I also think that nothing beats the .com domain name. People usually type this ending as the first choice, as the second choice I would consider a .net domain. Timo
One thing I've been doing, if I'm putting a .biz domain on flyers or whatever else offline, is always put www.mysite.biz. I started with just mysite.biz, but then I added the www to make sure people knew it was a website. You never know what some non-techies will think.
