What do you feel of mini sites?

I really got sick of the style:

    1. eye catching big red headline.
    2. sales letter is much longer than the ebook they're selling and full of bolded, underlined, yellow-highlighted text.
    3. a lot of successful stories, testimonials. e.g. thanks for the new car etc.
    4. many dollar tags with awesome and cent counted amount, but sometime you will have to click order to get the actual price, even the button isn't easy to find.
    5. a ton of big bonus every price end with 7 which in total valued at 1,085.92
    6. outsourced signature image.
    7. P.S.
    8. P.P.S.
    9. P.P.P.S.

What do you think of them? is the conversion rate really great?

BTW, would you recommend using a mini site for a open source software targeted webmaster? :D

    Thanks

Yeh... those sure sometimes can get to your nerves. It's quite interesting to hear people saying "but they convert so well". I've seen lots of these "convert so well sites" that are so tough to read that even when I would have interest for the product, it's so filled with sales pitches and BIG PROMISES that's very difficult to really buy anything from those.

But still... when done right, they convert well - whether it bugs us or not ;)

    The point is:

    - they look idiotic and spammy to you, because you're savvy
    - most people are fools
    - those sales pages are great to part a fool and his money
    => those pages sell well

After all, being in the business world I can't help but chuckle every time I see how a business makes money just because of people's ignorance
You won't believe how many businesses would be ruined if people were a bit more literate
Investment banks for example: oooh great, please take my money and give me 3% interest, then put it in US bonds at 5.25% and keep the difference as "management expenses" (yeah right, I can buy 5 million in bonds for like 5$ in a minute using an online brokerage, duh...yet most doctors and lawyers, who you would expect to be smart, pour all of their money there!)

They are quite annoying indeed and I really can't believe they convert so well.

Kendothpro is right: "most people are fools"

It also depends where you do business... while there might be short-term gainings for making nice sales pages - having a product & word-of-mouth can carry a long way. It might also be about the person who is selling... like for example, if shoemoney is sell something - everybody on DP will rush in line to get his product :) No matter what kind of sales page he has.

(bit exaggerated example, but I'm sure you get the point)
