What do you explain people when they ask you what you do for living?

From time to time I make some time to visit some parties of birthdays or just home parties and when I meet some new people and ask what I do for living I mostly cannot explain well what I'm doing.. So I just saying that im doing some IT projects... and then the following question is coming: what are you doing in IT lol..

How do you explain it to people? You are telling you are managing blogs and try to build a big blog network? Or you just tell that you are running a (couple of) website(s)?

I am really looking forward to your replies!

 

To avoid further questions i just say "i ain't got a life". That pretty much saves me lots of time

Just say you're a webmaster. It sounds fancy and most people who don't know what that is will be impressed.

 

Sorry all if this question is asked many times before.. but I havent find any topics about it. Also I don't now on which keywords I have to search.

 

I still havn't found a good way to explain it to people because most just don't understand the concept of setting up a site for advertising/affiliate revenue. The thing that bugs me the most is that when people hear that you "work from home" they assume that its not a "real job" and just sit in your boxers all day and watch tv. They start asking you to do stuff in the middle of the day for them like pickup thier kids from school or babysit because obviously all you do is sit around all day

 

For me, it depends on who I am talking to. If the other person is young or not too sophisticated, I say I'm a webmaster. If the person is older and/or sophisticated, I tell em' that I own a portfolio of websites.

I find "website publisher" works reasonably well.

 

I tell them....I sell my ass on the net...

 

I usually just say I make money on the net. This is followed by a wierd look because they assume I do porn sites, LOL

If they asckhow mutch and i tell them they remain mute

 

I just say I own a couple of sites and they look at me and ask why I would waste money... I tell them its well worth it.

 

You can always say that you sit all day clicking a keyboards and hanging out at DP.

I think webmaster is the best term, because it doesn´t specify what exactly it is your doing, which is in most cases too much to explain

 

lool people ask me all the time and im 18 and people say where u get ur money from, ur in college rite, and im like erm yeah erm no i dont work, i own sites and i have adverts, and they are like emmmm,how much r u earning, and when i say arround 1500 a month they just go and im like and then they ask- whats ur site?? and i like 2 keep myself safe from haters as they would probably try 2 fuck me up out of jealousy, but i dont wanna tell em that so i just say ohh its complicated i have a lot of them and lots of topics. and then people think im lying or im doing sumat ilegal. so i hate it when people ask, but i love it 2 because i know how good it is.
