The text entered in the Name field is the text that gets the hyperlink to your website. Are you supposed to put your name or a short 2 word description of your website? Blog owners do you deny comments that are genuine but appear spammy because they used keywords as their name?
It depends of blog, sometimes there are blog who using Keyword Luv where you can write your name @ your keyword. When i see that others comments have keywords in their name field, i also my keyword because it seems that the webmaster allow it. But if i see others commentators always use their names, i use mine too so my comment woul not be delete.
I absolutely deny comments that use keywords in the name field. Nothing say's "I'm spamming" like keywords in the name field. It's a no brainer.
Thanks for the feedback so far. As a new blog owner I would too deny a comment that had keywords in the name field. As a blog commentor I wanted to make sure I was following proper ettiquette. I also did see the keyword luv addon being used in a blog I commented on and did my name@my business name. I think if someone did their business name I would accept still.
It's all going to depend on what you are blogging and who your readership is. If you are blogging about small Business issues and people arelinking back to thier company website, that is the best thing that you can hope for..real people with real businesses. The problem today with comments is everyone and their mother has a blog that they are trying to make some adsense money from, so all of the low budget bloggers and webmasters are constantly on the hunt for somewhere to drop a link. It almost makes it hard to take any comment seriously. You can only approve so many BS comments before you just deny all of them on GP. I'd rather have no comments than to have a bunch of fake ones that link back to some pharmaceutical or Forex blog. The best place to leave a comment is on blogs related to your industry THAT YOU ACTUALLY READ. Everything else is really technically just spamming.
I'm so cynical about people leaving comments on blogs these days. I tend to reject all of them. But I have to agree that if you genuinely leave a comment on a blog that is related to your website, it shouldn't be a problem.
You are supposed to put your Name in the Name field, how shocking! LOL If you leave some spammy anchor text link, there is a very good chance it will get deleted, I sure do when moderating blog comments!
Think about it this way. You go to a blog and decide to leave a comment with useful content. If someone wants to ask a question or reply based on your added perspective, how would you want them note that they are talking to you? If you leave keywords, admins will be more likely to delete your post, and other visitors wont be able to reply/comment directly to you. Besides, your name is important in the Internet Marketing business. If you share useful content, people may look for you and find your blog/website. If they look for a keyword, they may find your competitors.
That is a really good way of looking at it. A lot of webmasters don't understand that if they plan on staying in this business and making some real money, that relationships and reputation turn out to be important. Many..Many people will not ever trust anyone online that goes out of their way to be anonymous. It gives off a vibe that you are hiding something or untrustworthy. People who are proud of what they do and how they do it are also proud to use their name...or at least not deliberately hide it. I see people here on the forum announce that they have services or some kind of deal, but when you look at their profile, it's blank..they have no website in the sig, and they are using a screen name. I wouldn't send someone like that money, would you? On more than one occasion I have had people call me that checked up on what I have left behind on the web, or what else has my name on it. I don't think they would have called if there was nothing of substance to be found or I had some bad stuff out there. A lot of bloggers that do the drive by commenting to drop a link are so new at this that they are grasping at straws anyway and will probably not be around long. Experienced bloggers don't leave such obvious clues that they are noobs and have no idea what they are doing.
Lol! . I personally have been wondering this lately as well but, have been using my name, because yeah, I as a blog owner, hate hate hate, the comments which are clearly spam, because of the keywords in the "name". Some I delete, some I leave. But yeah, so far im using my name for comments, as I want them approved . I even go to the work of actually making a relevant comment, none of this "hi john, very interesting". Who the hell is John? :S.
I have gotten to the point where I use my first name when I leave blog comments. I used to use a keyword (or 2) - but over the past few months, I decided to stop doing that. One reason, I think its more professional when you use your real name to represent your blog. Your blog name is not really "you", your name is you. What name do you have on your drivers license? Is it your blog name or your real name? So there is a difference between who "you" are, and your website.
I put the same id as the one I used here. At least the readers will know that I am a real person who is as interested in the blog post as them.
Write the word you want to rank for ..ie. Internet Marketing if you are targeting that word ...if you are looking to build a personal brand then you need to write you own name in the name section
I'll use Geek Chic as a nickname. It's also a keyword, for me, as it's kind of the angle I'm going for with my blog. Writing for geek girls. I should say that my 'niche' isn't blogging, but I read blogs about blogging as... that's what I do. So it's an industry I'm interested in without being 'my' industry. (I work from a tech/lifestyle angle.) I'm also interested in other types of blogs, but that doesn't mean I won't make a comment on a garden blog. I don't deny anyone a comment on my blog unless it's just obvious spam. They can share links as long as it makes sense to do so. I don't delete anyone's comment just because they use a keyword in the name, either. Again, as long as the comment makes sense, I'll post it.
I absolutly do not allow keywords in the name field of my site. My other readers look at it as spam and if you are writing a comment, you should be doing it because you like what I wrote and not to promote your site on my site.
I been getting a ton of comments lately with all different brands of shoes in the Name field. However, the bot (i am assuming that's what it is) never enters a url. I can definetly see how annoying it is now.
