What do you do to increase productivity and stay focused?

I have always had a problem focusing on one project or task and completing something before i move on to the next.

One thing that has helped me is creating timed lists.

    - Get a pen and paper
    - Write 5 things you want to complete:
    1) Add one new blog post
    2) Add 7 new links to my directory
    3) Reply to 3 emails
    4) Post 2 Classified ads
    5) Upload new wordpress template

I usually set a list for a couple hours and write the time, like 11:30pm in big bold letters at the top. Theres something about racing the clock that gives it almost a competitive edge that makes it more exciting. It also feels good to cross off items as you go. You'll notice yourself competing with previous times and seeing what you can get done in one timed list.

What things do you do to stay focused?

I personally have made it a habit to get out of my chair and aimlessly walk around the office for two minutes every couple of hours.I don't necessarily have a purpose other than to get the blood flowing and change my perspective for a minute or two. It's difficult to maintain focus and productivity if you feel like you're nailed to your chair, always under the spotlight that is your monitor.

Set a target for the future would help because we have a direction to follow then.

I use my Windows Sidebar "Sticky Note" widget, and write everything I want to get done there. That way I'm constantly looking at it ;)

I have a problem with that, by not even looking away from my screen for a couple minutes at the very least. I've thought about elevating my computer and standing while i work but have yet to try that.

You cant beat good old fashioned pen and paper for planning your day by compiling a list of things to do it works for me.

Resting, resting and more resting. then making a list of things that need to be done, and tackling them one at a time. This helps me prioritise and helps improve productivity.
