    It depends on :
    1. competition
    2. niche.

Sometimes 20-21% is good in airlines ads. For games much lower.

One client I'm doing an evaluation for has a 0.30% CTR. His display is like .07%. With a $600k/year ad spend he is somehow to cheap to invest in campaign management. Heck, if he just let me invest $50k of his wasted, zero-conversion display budget on remarketing, I'd probably pay for my whole fee in new sales, lol.

My newest client has 2% average and is clinging to me like a drowning man as he thinks he's doing terribly.

One thing about this work you get really interesting snapshots into human nature. (and the variety of personalities) lol

Of course it can be lower than 1.
If it is, it means you are doing something wrong.

It depends on the ad copy and that is as vague an answer as you can get but here is why.

More persuasive copy makes HUMANS react and HUMANS have a lot in common, generally if you want to hit the spot with most people you need to use persuasion....

Here are the proven powers of persuasion that you can use in adwords copy to spark interest:
    1. Try before you buy
"prove it to yourself entirely at our risk" - etc
    2. Proof
    "Leading doctor said" - etc
Cant be bothered typing examples for these next few, let me know if you want some and I will revisit
    3. Future pacing
    4. Time frame headlines

    Things like this work:
    "one time only price slash"
"turn up your digestive furnace and burn flab off your stomach".

The problem here is that google is not a HUMAN it is is an ALGORITHM and it uses adrank and quality score to decide how much you pay, the above adverts appeal to humans but not to google.

    Google adrank and Qs prefer

User searches for "lose weight" advert must contain "lose weight"

so adwords stops you been able to use the natural human emotional triggers in ad copy unless you want to suffer bad QS and bad Adrank.
