i was thinking of hiring a proffesional SEO person to do some SEO for my websites. But what do they really do? Is it something that i can do or an average person?
ya you can do it yourself but if you have a bunch of them it will be difficult to manage. If you know the basics you can do it yourself.
You can do it yourself for sure, but it will take a lot of time to learn about it, and keep up with the trends in the industry. If you want to devote that time to your business instead, it would be wise to hire a professional.
There is nothing much special on SEO, only the way of doing SEO and managing the work flow matters. Only experienced and professional SEO specialist can do better job.
Simple Answer: They create a presence for your site! If your looking for a more complex answer- they provide many differnet strategies that makes your site more relevant for the keywords you target, these include on page optimisation, link building and creating content such as blogs etc. Not all SEO's professionsal use the same methods and some believe other methods work better. If you want to do it your self, there is a lot of learning to be really effective.
You can do it yourself but probably will take years to learn proper seo you are paying the seo for his experience and work ...
Make sure you have proper html metas , title, always <h1> or <h2> when starting post all elements should fit your general keywords cloud. Also write unique content and don't make plagiarism and you don't need any seo services... What SEO guys do is building links to PR websites , submiotting links to directories, but you will need seo only if you have 1-3 page website ... If blog with unique content , just submit it with google and keep goin ...
You can definitely do it yourself if you choose. However, as some others have mentioned, it is very time consuming work. It takes awhile to learn about the industry and stay up-to-date with changes and trends. Your decision on whether or not to hire a professional should depend on how much time you have to devote to your SEO efforts.
Learning the basic of seo isn't that hard. I am sure you can learn how it works and what's the idea of it. But doing it professionally is a different thing. It can make the job easier, faster and the results might not take long enouigh to show up at once if you will hire a professional. I suggest that you can start learning it along with your hired seo guy. Good luck.
I agree with the general gist of this thread but I would like to see some of the rankings of all the DYI'ers. It is possible to do it yourself but it will probably take you 10 x longer to do everything a pro SEO would do and in the end you still might not do as good a job. I mean if you get from rank 245 to rank 29 on your own you might consider that a huge victory, problem is you won't get any traffic from that rank. But if you paid a few thousand dollars to a good SEO (not one of the scammers selling search engine submissions and poorly written blog comments) and you made it to position 1-5 and made a lot of money then that is real success.
Sure, you can learn it yourself, but like with any industry, because you lack the experience it will be more costly and time consuming.
I'll recommend you not to hire these pros for your site .... because nobody exactly knows the secrets of getting high ranking in google .... but if you follow things like : 1. Quality Content 2. Quality Backlinks 3. Age of URL 4. Proper Meta Tags, Description and meta keywords 5. Proper usage of keywords in content. 6. Proper Use of H1 and H2 just follow these basics and you'll get the high rankings .....
Hi, It is very much possible for an average person to take this up. All needed is a supporting team ( so that the work is distributed) and a good knowledge anout SEO related services. I mean you should read some book on SEO and so for a better result. regards sripat
A "pro" will figure out the website hierarchy and it's parts just like an engineer. You have a main page, inner pages, and those pages sometimes have inner pages. You will want to figure out what each page is trying to accomplish. Each page is a sales page even if there isn't a "direct sale" made. Then comes the part of writing out the Meta data (onpage SEO). You will want unique titles/descriptions/tags for all of your pages to maximize your index and chances to rank for longtail searches in Google. Most of the pages will probably be manually edited but with pages with thousands of inner pages you can create dyanmic titles. Example: Your website is about Cars. Within cars you want to rank for car shows. Within car shows are thousands of specifc car shows. Your hierarchy should look something like this: example.com - Cars -->>> example.com/car-shows Car Shows --->>> example.com/car-shows/mazda Mazda Car Shows --->>> example.com/car-shows/mazda/newyork New York Mazda Car Shows --->>> example.com/car-shows/mazda/newyork/albany Albany New York Mazda Car Shows You can see how each page delves deeper and more specific than the next. Whether your url is example.com/car-shows/mazda or example.com/mazda/car-shows probably doesn't matter a whole lot. Main thing is the titles/descriptions/tags all change for each page. I believe you can have SEO overboard though, and somethings are simply easier to put in java to allow the user to only navigate via one click versus 5 to get to the content, but if most of your traffic comes from SE's then you will want to map it out and do a virtual build of what you are trying to accomplish.
