You can have more than 100.000 PV and earn no more than $1 a day. It all depends on so much factors. One of my site has really good CTR but as you said served ads are extremely cheap. Tried to ban some worthless 1-cent ads, but everyday they start new campaign with new domains, built only for afiliates or ads. Have to experiment a lot, build more sites, but not spamy.

Deffiantly give it a shot, I am a marketing student and I don't get why people make good websites and then don't wan't to throw a few small ad's on. Its like throwing the chance at getting some free money, something to pay the hosting bills with? It really strikes me as "weird" when I see sites who are in the top 1000 in alexa ranking and they still dont ahve ads on the site yet each month they have begging sessions to try and pay for the server bills, I have seen it happen lol or they fork the cash out of their own pockets. I just don't get why web site admins think this way. Who cares if you have a few small ads on your page! People dont really care in the end! they only care with massive ad's and pop up to tell the truth!

if you are a little hesitant try putting 1 ad unit on the site and see how it does, then slowy increase it to 2 or 3 ad units if you think it won't be too disruptive to your users. ;)

I think most people expect to see some ads on most sites, and won't leave solely because there are a few there. After all, most other sites have advertising as well.

You simply have to judge how much is too much. For the majority of information pages, I'd say one ad block, or one links block, is the optimum. But if you have longer pages you may be able to stretch this. But consider your ratio of ads to real content. By real content I mean the text on the page not counting navigation, top banners, images, login forms and so on.

I think a good ratio is one ad block for every 400 words. So if you have 600 words of text, one adblock is about right. But if you have 800, 2 would be acceptable, and so on. It's when you exceed that ratio that you will start to alienate some of your visitors.

YMMV, depending on what sort of site you run, and who your visitors are.

You don't need to worry about that: just create an alternate ad for each size of Adsense unit you'll be using, and instead of charity ads, your own ad will appear in that spot (you'll need to enter the link to the page your ad resides on, when setting up your adsense ads).

This ad (your own), can be an add to another one of your pages/sites, or an affiliate link to a program you like.

try the ads you have nothing to lose really as it seems as if you have already created a good user base.

I have had similar concerns, but I have been able to grow traffic since I have trown ads up.
I also got some big name company banners through commission junction. I think for most people that actually makes the site look more credible.

with the right ad placement and context (not a gaming or forum only site), you should be able to bring in $300-400/month from adsense alone, if you join tribal fusion and throw up some CPM ads you could probably get another $50/month.... although I think you might be below the TF requriements...

Ever tried pay per lead instead of adsense. If your site is about gossip you may include ads on ringtones or free mobile phones which might match the interest of your visitors. The pay out is huge at about $9 per lead. might try it and see what happens. With adsense you might be earning a pathetic $0.05 per click

In general I would have put your ads on the site when you first designed it - i.e. have a column or top header etc where you put the ads

In fairness you should always experiment a bit with where you put ads anyway to find out what converts to clicks the best way. I would suggest you consult the Google Hot Map and other similar services for where to start putting the ads

Generally wider box ads do well, and skyscraper ads with no borders or background colors

I would be careful to make sure all this traffic you are getting is "genuine" because if it is from guaranteed hits programs or "bought-in traffic", you are going to hit the buffers with Pay Per Click ads, all of whom regard such traffic as "invalid impressions"
