Hi everybody I am wondering what members with multiple sites are doing for hosting solutions. How much should I expect to pay/month to get a good hosting plan preferably one that can host multiple domains. If anybody has some horror stories or success stories with their hosting company feel free to share.

May I know what is your site so that I can estimate how much you will pay to your host?

lease your own box.. it's the only way for multiple sites with any real traffic, if not you'll get raped in bandwidth fees. i pay $119 a mo. I've had it about 3 - 4 years

    side note:
    i'll host cheap $5 a month, 200mb band :p just pm me..

For my http://readallthe.info site, I'm using PenguinHosting.

So far so good. Tons of space, not bandwidth cap, one click install for most packages, like WordPress, Drupal, phpBB, etc...

And paying about $9 a month.

The hosting plan you will need will depend on the type of sites and traffic that you expect (i.e. how much bandwidth, disk space, cpu load your sites will need.)

For small sites you can probably get away with one of the shared hosting plans at any of the big hosting companies. If you plan to start small and then get bigger you will want to find a company that will allow you to upgrade easily from a shared server to possible a dedicated server.

Since we don't know what you need, we really cannot help you find a specific host or hosts.

Do plenty of research on this! Do a search for several companies you like and once searched out you need to post here or a hosting forum and ask for peoples experiences.

Hosting is a crucial part of running sites.

My main piece of advice is to keep backups!! No matter if your host offer backups, always keep your own regularly.

It sucks when a host goes down and the backup they have is corrupt.

Right now I have two hosting accounts they are $3/month ebay specials. Its on a shared IP, unlimited BW. My UL/DL speeds are alright around 25K/s UP 150K/s Down. My sites are still in development so I don't really have the traffic yet obviously I would like mass loads of (targeted) traffic but in the beginning I just want to get the sites out there and work my way up. So maybe my question should be what traffic levels are required before I upgrade to a dedicated IP, dedicated box. The $119/month is a little steep at the moment but eventually I will go that route. (traffic permitting)

    Dreamhost.com

Awesome host, just switched all my sites to there, great package, cheap, reliable, fast and they really have thought of everything. I really recommend it, and you can host multiple sites on there. Check out the packages.
PM me if you want a special code to reduce the cost for you. Members get to create codes for referal purposes! Which is another great idea!

IMHO $60 /month is extremely expensive unless your on a d.server.

How many sites do you host on your server???

thats true but its not exactly a shared server. like i said, its the VPS plan which is a Virtual Private Server that allows complete control and root level access to your own complete server environment. It's like a dedicated server without the cost and the management that comes along with it. That being said, its surely not for everyone. I just wanted to mention it here in case it was something lp43 might be looking for.

If your site uses alot of CPU usage, I will not recommand dreamhost.com. They will suspend your account when you exceed X amount of processing usage.

Well I personally feel that it is your best interest to find a fellow DP member who offers hosting and chose them after a little checking into their services!

You can go to the normal channels and get that package that offers you 999999 accounts with 99999999 mb of space and 999999 gb of band width

But I would ask you to consider this

Dp members take care of each other in general and their reputation means alot on DP ... so I am sure they will make sure a fellow DP member is going to get the best possible service available!

It is my opinion that you may save a few dollars on hosting else where

    BUT .....

Can you get online and talk to the owner of that super cheap big time hosting service as a fellow member and say " look I need your help... I am not getting this problem fixed.. which no matter where you go there is going to be problems of some sort pop up... but I guarantee you ... if its a fellow DP member and you contact him because his support isnt meeting up to snuff ... I bet he goes and gets it resolved really quick for you...

Plus to be honest ... the Hosting and who we trust the life blood of our online experiance is very very critical to us ..

And to try to be cheap with that of all things ... isnt the best idea

So instead of trying to find the super cheapest ... invest your money and you business with a fellow member ... and guess what ....
He very well may be using some of that money and spending it with you in the future ...

Keep DP members strong .....Shop DP services and products first

I know that a few members offer this service, some I know are good are Iowa Dawg ( I currently use His) and Mia are very good !

On that notes, I would gladly give a 50% discount on any of our annual hosting plans for DP members. And 10% off any dedicated/colo. Site's in the signature!

The Dawg has hosting available also.
I don't offer discounts, as my prices for the hosting packages is already cut to the bone.
I am a reseller for the best host I finally found after over 2 years of hunting, disappointment, etc.
And I am here, so people can get me if they have problems.
Have yet to have significant downtimes or any major problems in the past 6 months.
Just see what you can get from me at:
    http://www.dawghost.com

I will also work with you on additional storage or bandwidth you may need.

    Thank you.
