DNS = Domain Name System is like a telephone book. You look up a name and it gives you a number. In this case the name is the domain and the number is the IP address. Basically it's the system that directs the user typing in your domain name to get to the right server that has your website hosted.

For me, my DNS settings are with my domain/hosting provider (GoDaddy). I log into my account, click on my domain, and then I can adjust the "nameserver". You can have your host manage the setting or you can manually change it if you know what you're doing.

If you change hosting providers, you want to change your nameserver. If you are parking a domain with Sedo or Parked, you want to change your nameserver. But if you're like me and your host is the same place where you bought your domain, you probably want them to manage the nameserver.

Your PC caches or remembers much of the DNS information but sometimes, ... On looking further, I could not find any logic to the dozen or so sites I regularly visit ... Now, as I said, rebooting your machine has the same effect.

DNS is the naming system of computers connected in the network. DNS is the system of giving user friendly names for the complicated computer names such as 192.0.32.10
www.sample.com is easy to remember and use than something like 192.0.32.10

The DNS only the time involved in establishing the connection between two servers. When the browser takes a long time to find a website is usually either because our primary DNS is down or for some reason has a very slow response time. The DNS does not affect while transmitting information, such as when a file is downloading from a website. Therefore, to improve DNS good browsing speeds, but not the transfer.

The Domain Name System (DNS) is a hierarchical distributed naming system for computers, services, or any resource connected to the Internet or a private network. It associates various information with domain names assigned to each of the participating entities. Most importantly, it translates domain names meaningful to humans into the numerical identifiers associated with networking equipment for the purpose of locating and addressing these devices worldwide.

dns has nothing to do with ns of the domains you have. you can change dns through your computer (ask your isp how to do so if you dont know). i often point my dns to opendns which is free and saves info in cache of websites frequently visited.

The DNS meaning is Domain Name System(DNS). DNS is translates Internet domain & host names. It automatically converts the names or data we type in our Web browser search address bar to the IP addresses of Web servers hosting those sites.DNS mainly used to built into the operating system.
