Aviva - inspired me for the best design ... Alive - inspired me to promote like him ... but i m no where close.
There are many that have inspired me in some ways, but not overall. The 3 in my sig, Forplex, Aviva and Alive are probably the ones which have more than any other. I also like joe ant. Overall there is still a lot more to come in the directory world and in order to stay competitive, just a directory by itself will no longer cut it. not unless you are a marketing genius, which actually some people here are.
Aviva, Alive, Directory Dump & Romow inspired me alot! and to be honest there are some other directories too like forplex and eWebpages which inspired me! Saad
Looking beyond DP, I was inspired most by the growth of "Jerry and David's Guide to the World Wide Web" into "Yet Another Hierarchical Officious Oracle"
If I may say now the "Present Time" after a careful RESEARCH. I'd vote for: GII - Amitpatel Directory Dump - Anon ewebpages - Creed Index-it.net - banless Dirsensei - Mine Ask jhnrang WHY ? Or do the RESEARCH YOURSELF. Have a nice day everyone.
bloggeries has inspired me a lot as well, and now it's for sale. http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?p=2605833#post2605833
For me it was www.wowdirectory.com that really inspired me.. That was over 3 years ago. After seeing the power of a web directory with wowdirectory I decided to create dirspace.com. Have big respect to site-sift, alive, aviva, sevenseek and to the new upcomming directories such as forplex, directorydump, romow, ask, umdum, directory&v7n and more.
Dmoz is not bad in itself its the editors that are screwing over dmoz for good. But attitude of website owners also effect user opinions on the website, hence no vote here for dmoz here, but will vote for others and for my own directories Because none inspired me, its my own inspiration that inspired me to start directory.
There wasn't one directory that inspired me, I personally studied a lot of popular directories and sites that have attributes that are important for directories and tried to implement them in my directory in a way that I could afford them since my starting budget when I was starting Your Index was really low.
You can replace yahoo with directorydump. Yahoo is just a general paid directory, nothing else. Basically all of them except three (alive, aviva and Dmoz ) are not at all inspiring in any sense (to me).
Actually i don't think it is... Aviva is the name of his wife but i dont think the figure illustrated graphic is based on her...
