Sorry if this has been asked and answered. I couldn't find it if it has. When doing a request for backlinks in any SE I was wondering how the ranking of the backlinks is determined by the SE. Is there any order to it? If I am trying to compete with site A and they have 100 backlinks according to Google should I assume the first result is the most important according to Google or is a random? Anyone have any ideas?
I have asked this question before and got a deer in the headlight stare back at me. My only theory is that its random but the order dont seem to change so thats not it. Could be date they were added. I dont know.
I just did a BL check in Yahoo! and that theory isn't playing out with my client. I know we linked to him months ago and there are much newer links beneath us. It almost appears Yahoo! is showing higher PR links, which Google is definitely not doing.
I have wondered this question myself and I've come up with this: Google - Doesn't really show anything. They like to show run-of-site links. Yahoo! - They seem to show in order of importance, to their search engine. They'll show homepage links and authority links before interior page back links. MSN - They show a mixture of everything. Haven't really found a pattern with them. Having said all that, my preferred backlink provider is Yahoo!.
Concur with Voasi, however I've got someone who uses MSN under the assumption that they also provide links in order of importance. Google certainly does not.
I can solve the MSN backlinks for you, or atleast i think so. The sites in the backlinks are sorted by their amount of backlinks. It means that for example: a site with 50 backlinks, linking to you, will appear in your backlinks before a site that only has 30 backlinks. Feel free to correct me if i'm wrong.
