Sometimes is good to live in Croatia :) $1.000.000 with 3% interest should generate $30.000/year which is $2.500/month which is again 3.5 average Croatian salaries. Yes, I think a million is pretty enough to retire...

gimme ownership of microsoft and I'd retire right now ;)

Otherwise, I've got too much to experience career wise to retire.

I am pretty retired right now, unemployment and just working 30 minutes a few days every week with the sites. 6$ a day isn't bad at all :)

With the fall of the Soviet Union, Eastern Europe is looking pretty attractive.

I really liked Poland when I was there. I think that I would like Estonia/Latvia/Lithuiana -- except that I do not like cold.

    Tell us about Croatia. :)

Will I am glad you asked :)

    [commercial - offtopic]

I live in Ploce (where "pl" in my nick is from), small city situated 100 kilometers from Dubrovnik and 55 km from Makarska. It is definitely the most beautiful part of the country with millions of tourist visiting it every year.

I was in Poland, Check republic, Slovakia and Hungary in 1998 and it was excellent and I am planning to visit it again. Before 1990 Croatia was part of Yugoslavia and it was much more developed than mentioned countries but the war stopped us pretty much and now we are trying to catch our train to European union.
    [/end of offtopic 2]

Now back to the topic. The life in Croatia is a little bit different than in USA (for example of developed country). People in here work until 3 o'clock and after that they go out with the family, go to the beach, fishing... What I wanted to say is that with $2.500/month (if the interest is only 3%!) you are able to live a normal life and have an opportunity even to travel around the world from time to time...

I believe that American Internet-based workers relocating and/or retiring overseas is going to be a huge phenomena in the next few decades.

As soon as the wife is done with her current (non-Internet) project, we're going to go scouting. :)

Excellent! I am just making a website for 60 year couple from Germany who moved to Croatia and started some bussines with small groups of tourists. I'll show it to you when I'm finished... And there are lots of people like them coming to Croatia...
