Wow, the post that will never die. I didn't see THE answer. But I do believe Google provides the answer with the default layout. Default is more popular than anything else, and adsense makes more money than any of it's competitors. I believe that is THE answer in general, but of course it can vary depending on your site's layout and color theme.

Blue on white background, or anything which blends in the site.

use ad title color same as the link color on web page, and backgrounds same as site with same color of border.

    I agree with Neezar
and the best way to do this is Channels
put 3-4 code in many places with different option (change color , background .....) and make channel for every place
    leave it for a week
    and wait!!!!

Plus, yellow, orange will make people think they are hungry, or want to buy food related items. Again, think McDonalds. I worked for a major grocery retailer years ago, and they, successfully, incorporated yellow into almost all their in-store signage. It didn't seem that attractive, but proved to increase purchases in a big way.

I would have to say that testing is the Key - make some changes, for a one month period, then check your stats- the rest is just opinions!

Hey, I really like that one.
    .........................

Remember to be careful when doing this. Google gets picky when the ads can't be distinguished from "other stuff" on your page. In light of that, I agree with you as it seems more attractive on the page.
    ............................................

Channels are so very important, and for more reasons than just figuring out the colors. My advice on this is DON'T be lazy, make those extra clicks and do the channel thing when making your ads. I hate that I ignored this early on - I have trouble tracking my best pages because of this.
    ............................

    This is interesting! :)
    ........................................

Yes, if it's that important, by all means you should keep stats on it. And, like above, remember to make your channels!
