I like the way of how this news site works and looks www.security.nl but how would one make such an site, what kind of CMS is being used to achieve this? What i want is just like the above mentioned site a summary of headlines like this: and upon clicking the link to be directed to a new page with the full article and the ability to let users post comments about the article. As seen below: With addition of the next and before article links as you can see on the second picture. Also a feature as on above site to display the amount of comments made to each individual article. I want to ad a couple of left side menu wrappers (i believe you call them this way) and some minor changes in the look of presentation. But i want to use the same concept. Could anyone please advise me on how to achieve this? What CMS should i use for this? Is this possible with Joomla? Which specific modules would i need for this if it is possible with Joomla? Thanks in advance guys.
It looks like e1o7 it's pretty good for cutting your teeth on with regards to CMS and php and it has a great community supporting it. A little more demanding but well worth a look is Joomla or Mambo which are essentially the same CMS but they've branched. I'll leave it to you to discover the reason why. No room or time here. my site http://softeasel.co.uk is a mambo powered site. They're all open source http://e107.org/news.php http://www.mamboserver.com/ http://www.joomla.org/
That functionality could easily be created by most CMS systems with simple tweaks to existing RSS functionality. For example: http://www.propertytalk.com/component/option,com_ptnews/Itemid,158/ We handle the RSS slightly differently but the concept is the same. Pagination at the bottom etc. It's just the styling and the fact that there's no underlying article.
very nice cms .. looks pretty nice for news sites .. @Sarahk : i would like to know the RSS mambo component in propertytalk.com as it looks very nice , can you help me plz .. thx in advance
Thanks for the replies guys, Sarah i didn't even know that the site i mentioned use RSS to display their news. If i am correct they ad it manually by logging in to their CMS and then go from there. I don't think they pull it in from somewhere else... as a matter a fact i'm quite sure they edit it themself and are not integrating articles from another site by usage of RSS.
