I want to create a database (I'm thinking SQL but am open to suggestions) and have it in my website so users can fill in data (ex. education level) and get relevant results from my database. It's kind of like those quiz sites where you enter your data/answers and it references that to the data in the DB and then gives results that meets the users' needs. What CMS has database querying capabilities like that? I would prefer a WYSIWYG editor but I'm sure none of those have that type of capability? Any insight or advice is greatly appreciated... thanks so much!
all cms systems use a database - and all will allow you to write your own plugins the only exceptions will be the ones provided by developers as their own product but I'm assuming you are looking at systems like drupal, joomla and wordpress.
The easiest to use is wordpress because of it's friendly user interface and there are a lot of plugin's to use from.
Pretty much, I figured those little editors from the domain hosts weren't advanced enough. I actually didn't think wordpress was either, but I'm sure you know better than me, so thank you! Thanks! I assumed it was more suited for simple blogging sites, but sounds like it's more advanced than that
I have a site that you'd never think was WP until you looked at the source. Chose it because the user had some funky stuff to do in the admin side to load the custom data and knows WP. There are people here who will be incredibly disparaging of WP but you can't get past the fact that it's free, fast, has loads of plugins to use or learn from and loads of supporting documentation.
Web developers usually use either of the three--WordPress, Joomla!, and Drupal. However, if you're looking for CMS other than the three mentioned above, you could also try out Expression Engine and TextPattern. Each of those CMS mentioned have their sets of strengths and weaknesses so just pick the one which allows for greater flexibility to suit your needs best.
