Nothing beats the simplicity and practicality of WordPress. Plus, the wide array of plugins it has makes every website great and user-friendly at the same time.

I agree that Wordpress has a lot of plugins and themes but it's not the easiest CMS. I recommend Batflat - flat-file CMS. It's great for simple websites! Implementing your own template takes 10-15 minutes.

I used Drupal before, but now that I see the simplicity of WordPress, I'm not going back to Drupal. WordPress from now on ;-)

WordPress, Joomla and Drupal can be rewarding CMS for a personal webpage or a test for a startup website. However, there are numerous concerns about data security, so if you want to make a serious, yet simple website, I would suggest a cost-effective web hosting service.

If the OP's site will be say 6-12 pages and the content won't change very often, could any CMS be considered overkill? Would static HTML pages be better suited

I have a lot of clients which utilized the same 3 or 4 wordpress themes for clients that they build 5 page websites for. I would recommend finding a couple of Wordpress themes that you like, bake the theme price into the development process, and then for future clients, offer them a choice between a few themes that you have available, and then you can clone a previous clients website, blow away the post data and then build a site with similar look and feel for a client and save yourself a lot of time and effort.

Additional, a word of caution, various themes may utilize a couple of different WYSIWYG (What you see is what you get) plugins, and your first couple of projects may require you to spend additional time in figuring out the ins and outs of these tools. Make sure to read the instructions of these themes, as most of them will contain "demo" content that have numerous examples which you should thoroughly investigate and see how they are built, and if time allows, spend time trying to rebuild from scratch. Once you can do that, you should be able to build out new sites and customize them very quickly.

For something of that nature, your best bet is to use Wordpress, as that will get you up and running fairly quickly. There are a number of places to host your own wordpress site cheaply, and you can find a theme for usually around 40 dollars that does 90% of the work for you.

WordPress is the easiest and quickest solution to build a website. Especially if you buy hosting from somewhere like godaddy. You can have your website up and running in minutes.

We've had a lot of great success with October CMS and updates are automatic without breaking the site. We feel it's a lot more secure than Wordpress and not bloated.

Hmmm. Could you explain to me why anyone would have the temerity to use Turdpress say for a website with 10,000 pages, with some of those pages changing EVERY day while other pages do not change for months? Basically a website that has a hundred or more pages changing EVERY day.

Your name says it all. You have NO idea what you are talking about.
