What city should I visit for a month?

I quite fancy some time away and I'm going to travel alone. It wont really be a holiday as I'll still be working, more just a change of scenery. Anyone got any suggestions where to go? It needs to meet the following:

    • Be in reasonable travelling distance of UK (no more than 4hr flight)
    • Be easy to rent an apartment with wireless internet for a short time. (or hotel if its cheap enough)
    • Not cost a fortune to eat out, pay rent, do things etc

Does the place you live fit in with this? Right now, off the top of my head, I'm thinking to go to Poland. I just like to see new places and it'll be relaxing and a change to go work somewhere else for a little while. Probably only 4 weeks though.

    thanks!

I really enjoyed my time in Paris. I thought the hotel was reasonalbly priced and if I remember correctly it wasn't much of a train ride away from London.

    Also Amsterdamn was quite nice!

hehe at least they are mostly here to take jobs that the general population is too lazy to do as they get too much free money and benefits not to work! I'd rather have the polish than the africans! Seems every week another african immigrant's shot and killed someone else :D

Paris is an option, but for me taking the train from London isnt ideal as I'm up north, it would take me 5hrs by train just to get to London. Amsterdam has already been ruled out, the chance of me behaving myself, or doing even a tiny amount of work, would be extremely unlikely lol.

I've been to Italy a few times, I'm looking to try somewhere new. I agree though Rome is a great place. I may try a different Italian city but not Rome as I was there recently.

Hehe England wouldnt be much of an adventure would it :p No different culture, weather, things to do or anything than what we've got up here!

Ryanair are doing £0.01 each way on Poland flights, works out at £29 return total including tax so might just do that. I fancied Ukraine but there isnt any cheap flights to there :(

Hehe nice idea, but too expensive! I can get a return flight to most european places for £10-15 each way so I'm going to stick to closer to home unfortunately.

Take some money and buy a VAN... or a small pickup... if its a pickup put a cap on the back and a small mattress....

DRIVE wherever you feel like and MOST hotels you could park outside of and go online... Plenty of wifi hotspots everywhere.... This way you are mobile and can see a huge chunk of europe in month. If you're looking for cheaper living head to east europe.... less desirable but cheaper...

How about Tokyo, it is a very nice place, but a tad expensive. Though you can live cheaply if you know the bargains.

I wouldnt mind going to Tokyo to visit for a week or so, but not for a month to work I dont think. Not sure where else I'll go on holiday this next year, maybe Switzerland/Austria in the summer for the Euro 2008 football championships. Maybe Moscow as well. Decisions decisions, I can never make my mind up :D

I'll definetely be doing a few european trips, its just so cheap to fly here that it doesnt even really cost me any more money than staying at home. Flights are often available at a few dollars plus tax, totalling like $50 for a return to loads of european cities.
