ok i just landed my first paid ecommerce site. ive used zen cart in the past but i am starting to second guess that right now, for a number of reasons.

I would like to hear what you would use to set up a shop for a customer?

I do not want hosted solutions, just cart

    thanks in advance

    Probably zend, or oscommerce.

If you are a very proficient programmer, I would go with Magento. It's a better cart IMO, but is significantly more difficult to customize if you are not very familiar with MVC programming and the Zend framework.
