what can make my site 1# at google ?

i want my site to be 1# at google for some keywords,

what do i need to do to get it ?
SEO make its better for search engine bots i know
but what can i make in order to claim up to the top 10?
i was told that link exchange will do that.. but.. does it mean i need to exchange links with a LOT OF SITES to get 1st ? is it true ? cuz its seems too easy for anyone to do it..

Basically, you have to work even harder than your competitors. The competitors that are ranking for what you want to rank for.

If you have very good content your site get backlinks naturally... or you can buy links, exchange links, write articles with backlinks and add them to article directories, do social bookmarking for links, etc etc... don't wait anything to happen over night...
