I have written a 5000 word report on cancer for someone who has contacted me here on Dp and even though I have sent him this report 2 months ago he keeps on delaying the payment. In the last 3 weeks he did not even respond to my e-mails any more. Is there anything I can do to get my money on my work?
personally i wouldnt have sent him the document, i would have made it into an image, then once payment was received, then i would sent the text document, so at the very least he would have to copy the 5000 words manually if he was going to scam you. There is very little that can be done, but try to provide all information and evidence to the relevant people here on DP.
This may not help you now but in the future I would be sure to secure at least 50% upfront before you begin a project. I always make sure that my clients know that a deposit is required before I even start researching to write articles or reports, especially ones with that many words. Being scammed is a hard pill to swallow but it has probably happened to all of us at one time or another. You can give him a negative itrader but then again he may come back and give you one just because you did it to him. Has he posted the report yet online? If not, you could post it on a blog or on Ezine Articles before he has the chance and then it will just look like he copied your content. Whether you get your money or not, the best thing to do is to learn from it and make sure that you get something upfront from all your future clients.
I guess you are all right and this should be a lesson to learn. I should have asked him for half of the money at the beggining and the rest of them at delivery. I will check if he got to publish my report and if not...thanks to your advice I will know what to do. Thank you for the support.
Yup, it's a tough lesson to learn, but most of us probably learned it the same way. It's sad that we can't just go on a handshake (or a cyber-handshake) anymore, but that's reality. I hope you can get it settled amicably.
I would first check that he hasn't already published it, then publish it yourself. If you're not interested in releasing your own content, you could even break it up and sell it on Associated Content for a meager $4 for every 400 words. It's not much, but you'll be getting something for your work while simultaneously making the unique content you gave this creep unusable. In the future, get contracts and don't give up the goods before payment unless you know and trust the client.
To sue him...hmm...I think it would take me too much time and energy to invest in such a thing and it just isn't worth it. I checked yesterday if he got to publish my report and luckily he did not do that yet. I will try to get my work published somewhere on the internet, like most of you people answering my call have advised me, and in the future I will know what to do to prevent this thing from happening again. Thank you all.
Here's what I think of that, if he did not pay for it, it is not his. Explain to him one last time that you need your payment. If he does not respond, sell PLR rights to it to other marketers. That is your right since he did not pay. You can make more money in the long run EDIT: Please don't sell it on AC, you can make so much more money with it elsewhere! Def. go the PLR Route
I'm sorry this happened to you. We so often get wrapped up in our work we forget the base rules until something like this happens. I would follow Jen's advice and sell it PLR. You'll probably make more money from it that way.
Go and publish it first thing, and PL R is great option to choose. Try that guy one last time, next time when you get your work, you know what to do: go for an escrow service before you sell your contents . That way, you can be sure that you get your price.
You can take a snapshot by pressing your Print Screen key and pasting the image into another program. If you want to be able copy a specific portion of something, you can download a free program like Irfan View (I love it).
Here are my suggestions: 1. Sell the report in another forum or in the BST section if you want 2. Divide the report and write "standalone" articles. You can then sell the articles as unique content 3. Sell the report via PLR (just like what Jenn_Dize suggested) 4. Divide the report and write "standalone" articles and then sell the articles as PLR Hope this helps
