What can I do to promote my blog?

Well I noticed that Google was giving a bit of love to my blog, Modern SEO News. At that time I wasn't blogging a lot, but I picked it up and started blogging like crazy and all of a sudden Google is letting me rank for "SEO News" so I'm slowly rising up the SERP's (while trying to earn some revenue from it ) but I want some traffic as well.

So I signed up for FeedBurner, which says I've got 4 subscribers so far Not such great stats...I also got this little cool image:


I saw someone else do it on WickedFire, so I put that in my sig for the forums which allowed them a few hours ago.

I also get a few pingbacks to my blog (I put trackback URL's in my post because my visitors like the extra info and I usually get pingbacks).

But what ELSE can I do to promote my blog? I am also getting an extra blogger to blog a bit more for me and put in some new content as well..

If anyone can suggest any cost-effective ways for advertising or promoting, please let me know!

 

Sign up for technorati and claim your blog, assign technorati tag in your blog, this will generate more traffic from tecnorati tag service.

Also put up the social bookmarking service in order to allow others to bookmark your page. You can see my blog (url in my profile) to find out more about social bookmark.

Hey, which plugin would I use for Technorati Tags in my post?

I'll try and put in the social bookmarking tags put below every post for the big social bookmarking services.

sixty6, can you please share how many posts you started to do daily/weekly.. when you say 'I picked it up and started blogging like crazy' Thats a good success story and we'd like to know more about it.

 

Also list your blogs to blog directories which are niche directories which list only blogs

LOL, well I noticed Google love and decided to blog around 3 or 5 times a day, but I was in St. Louis for the last couple of days so I need to pick it up again..Barely have any subscribers to FeedBurner...

try leaving comments over other people's blog.

but make sure they are meaningful and not only spam

 

A lot of people said that, but I thought it was too much work, you put it over the top - so I guess I will try it

 

i use a few metrics to determine the success of my blog:
1) stickiness of the content:
do you feel it was worth reading the post after having invested the time.
are you adding value to it?

i especially like Darren Rowse's problogger.net.

2) traffic generation:
are people able to find you?
have you done SEO.
are you blogging on a consistent theme
are your keywords in good proportion.
i think blogging once or twice a day is good enough.
you probably need to post on related forums and blogs more regularly.
maybe submit news releases and articles too.

my blog is slated to go from PR0 to PR4 in abt 3mths (according to iwebtool.com).
i've been listing on directories and running promos.

i've also got backlinks and two way links from a number of PR5+ sources.
every little bit helps, but i think being patient is key.

oh yeah, i think a lot of the stuff in secretblogweapon.com was useful too.
