this site is under construction, but i was wondering if there is anything i could do to increase page rank and search rank until it is completed. As you can see I dont know code. I designed this in dreamweaver (wysiwyg). If the code was corect I think I could get better rank.
    Any Ideas?

Of course the code may affect your page rank. I think the first thing you need to do, is to convert the text in About us to text instead of using an image to show all the words.

Build up a few links to your site with directories and articles submissions, the usual stuff :)

Don't do anything too aggressive though until you've officially launched.

    My take

Dont do any SEO when your site is under construction, just put an about us page with two line details of your company and contact details, nothing else

What I normally do with a domain that's waiting for content is to build a blog on domain.com/blog and redirect the site root to it. Add content and build links which will help you get your site ranked quicker once it goes live. You'll also benefit from the related content in the blog.

I would just focus on writing QUALITY copy. Don't write for search engines in mind. Content is king.:)

Well building links for an under construction site would not be easy. So I would advice you to do SEO right from the start. Like if you are designin the site design a search engine friendly design, this is what you can do to save yourself from extra work after your site has been designed.

Why waste your time unless you have a mailing list setup so people can be notified when the site is finished. Something has to be a draw.

This is true, I always think that if you are writing quality contents on the topic and niche you are in. They will be optimized naturally since you cannot avoid using the related keywords in the contents.

You want to have already identified your keyword phrases and be mapping them onto your pages. The keyword strategy should also affect the site architecture so be thinking about that as you build. What links are you going to have? Where do you want them to point? What pages should they be on to reinforce your chosen keyword? What text content should be with which links on what pages? etc etc

The very start of a web site is the best place to be for SEO, before it's even built.

Excellent I'd say. May I recommend focusing on two or three keywords at a time though? My expierence has been that I get most out of it that way.

After getting the right keywords, it is better to submit on good directories before the site launched.

Yes, that is what I would do. Get it all set up and once you're ready, get some SEO & Traffic going. You could be #1 on google in no time at all.

How can you tell whether they're excellent or not just by looking at them?

You need to find out how many people are searching for those terms, how many sites are also using them, whether they're actually optimised for those terms or not and finally what their backlink structure is so that you know if you can compete with them or not.

    At the most basic.........

If you can actually tell a good keyword just from looking at it, I'd like to hire you immediately to save me hours of painstaking keyword research on every job....;)

While your site is still under construction the best thing to spend your time with is placing the right keywords in meta tags, in the title, headings and throughout the content. From my experience the king is content. Create quality content and then create some more. Lots of quality content is the best way to make your site SEO friendly and to make others link to your site once it's been published. So the formula is: domain name+meta tags+title+headings+CONTENT
