What can I do to get back in SERPs after some guy copied my site word for word?

    This is bs. Some web design company copied my original design and all my well written keyword rich content and sold my mortgage site to some other loan officer. Yahoo dropped almost all of my pages and I am sure google is on the way. He just registered his domain at the end of July and about 4-6 weeks after he registered, my SERPs dropped bad. What can I do to get unpenalized by yahoo, msn, and google? I'll make this company write yahoo a letter saying they robbed my site or i will sue them if i have to. They even put my site in their f'in portfolio.

    Compare the site in my sig to http://www.azloandepot.com

    If it is your content then sue them. They are stealing copyrighted materials. First you should send them a DCMA take down notice. Also, notify Godaddy about this. They can revoke the domain if you send Godaddy the DCMA too.

    Oh it will come down whether I have to sue them or not. Regardless, when it does come down....what can I do to get back up where I was in the SERPs?

    I was climbing the serps steadily till this idiot did this. Do I have to start all over again?

    BTW exodus, I am not familiar with DCMA, what is this?

    The full form of DMCA is Digital Millennium Copyright Act, if that's what you mean.

    Google should see your site as the original author and take the other site as duplicate content

    Small question - was the original site formally copyrighted under your name? If so, all the better.

    You can sue if you have a lawyer but the least you could do is to contact google/yahoo to deindex them. Claim your rights. Google cache or archive.org should have a back dated cache to prove that your site is operating first.

    You need to sue them. Sue them and take all their money. Sue them if they even look at you funny.

    @Grumps - Quite right.

    Ensure that you notify all the SEs immediately and without delay.

    If the original site does not have a registered copyright, then your rights in court are limited. You could get the courts to force them to remove the content and you might get actual damages if you could prove any. But you would not be able to sue them for "all they have."

    @bluegrass - Exactly my point.

    I hope the original site has a registered copyright. However, you will need to sow a lot to reap the results otherwise. Bank on the cache for evidence in such a situation.

    She removed the site. The loan officer's wife actually owns this website design company (http://www.unitedwebsource.com). She is claiming that it came in a package of templates she bought on ebay with ALL the content....hmm.....i smell bs. Anyways, I contacted the seller on Ebay and bought the package to take a look although I dont think it was him. I did tell him she is pointing fingers at him and left him her house number and my cell phone number.

    Unfortunately it is not formally copywritten. That was my mistake, it is my first site and didn't really think about this happening. I mean stealing a design is one thing, but being so lazy that you cant write your own content is even funnier. I definitely got penalized in google and yahoo and the timings on her registration and my penalties make sense.

    How can i contact google and yahoo and make them aware of what happend? This web design company said she would write letters to google and yahoo explaining what happend if i need them. She had the site down before I even asked her to take it down which has guilt written all over it. What do you guys think my next step should be other than contacting google and yahoo?

    Try getting more incoming links to your site - don't get low quality links but only a few authority links would help. :)

    Report to google and others SEs after explaining your situation and with archive.org page links of both the sites, yahoo takes time but google does it little faster, you may not get a response but you will find the serps ranks returning, all the best

    Without a legal Copyright your rights are not safe. Just in case who can prove "who was the first?" The date of the domain registering cant prove nothing
