What can Adobe Flash do for websites?

When it comes to all of the options available today regarding web design, there is one that is gaining tremendous momentum, Adobe Flash. Flash is a program that allows its users to incorporate motion and graphics within their websites. With elements of motion added, it can make a site look more pleasing to its visitors. Flash also allows for more information inclusion in smaller spaces due to the many effects that can be used to animate site content or links.

    Adobe Flash and SEO

Flash has a lot of strengths in regards to how it can make sites look and feel, but there can be drawbacks. When considering using Flash it is very important to remember SEO, especially with the potential to damage or hinder web spiders page crawling if Flash is not used correctly. One of the most common mistakes sites make when using Flash, is over usage. Flash can make HTML code look complicated to the eye which in turn would make it hard for a web spider to get past all it's character elements. In other words, a little Flash goes a long way.

    Best Site Type for Flash

Depending on what purpose a site is going for depends on how much Flash it should have, if any. Websites that only offer a small amount of content or products and services should consider using Flash to bolster the emotions of its visitors. Including products within Flash animation can make a big difference in the way it is perceived over just a simple static picture. While sites that are mostly content based might want to think of either very limited usage or another design tool. As Flash could be seen as distraction on a site where the visitor is there to read and gather information.

Things to Consider when using Flash

There are still many slow adopters when it comes to high speed Internet options. When Flash is used in a website it makes the page a lot larger in terms of memory, which affects load times. Depending on who the site is targeting, it would be a shame to preempt traffic because of the type of browser or connection they have. Even top of the line mobile browsers have not got Flash to work successfully as of yet. Making sure that a sites Flash elements work with all available browsers is also important, as in the way HTML is written can affect it's outcome from browser to browser. Flash can also be very expensive to incorporate with a site, which is not to say that having it isn't worth it, but must be understood before this step is taken.

The article is useful buddy.. But if it's come slow adopters then here you could take care light weight flash instead of making it heavy with images and 3d stuff etc.

It's always depends on the user and traffic, which audience you gonna target. If your targeted audience is US or UK or Europe based then you don't have to look at the flash player and slow speed problem. Because these user have always every thing updated at their end.

Also it's depends on your budget, how you gonna pull the traffic to your website if you want the traffic from search engines then off course you should have make the page in html that is preferred and if it is with CSS based then it's best. But if you can pull the traffic from any other source like blogs, forums, Banner Ads, PPC, CPC etc. then at this point you should think of more communicative website and that's possible with the Flash.

So at some point i do align with your articles and no doubt it's beneficial but at some point i will go with user requirements...

Have a look at the website i developed before couple of days, still working on it http://brim.in and it's totally in flash.

Let me know if i am wrong any where.

    Thanks buddy,
    M. Amir

I like your style the site looks top notch. Nicely done.
This is more of a general article to get the word out that flash can be a benefit as well as bring harm in some kind but of course that will depend on a user and targeted audience. I surely agree with your opinions, these are good points when considering flash.

    Thanks Captain Obvious!

Flash was originally designed for vector animation which loads extremely fast for those who actually know how to use the program.

I'm not a big fan of flash. Let's face it, we live in an A.D.D. world, and every millisecond flash takes to load is one more millisecond that the viewer is growing impatient. My number one irritation is flash as an intro. Remember, even in advertising, the first 5 seconds make the biggest impression, and making that first 5 seconds force the viewer to wait is a bad one.

    Well guys,

Let me include one more thing here, as i am not align that flash took more memory and time to load. Actually it's also depends on the planning always how you are planning out. Because if you are Flash player than you always prefer to use the vector elements as much as you can and if use image then make it optimize without compromise with the quality.

Now a days Rich Media specially if it's comes to online BANNERS are always provide the 30K of limit and that is standard and in this K weight you have the size 300x250 etc and you have to present and convey your all messages. So we do create the banners in the given specs with the client requirement. But it's always depends how you are using the things.

If you don't follow the standard and don't follow the best practices then you should not have work in flash as for sure it's gonna take memory and time to load both.

    Thanks
    M. Amir
