Both DMOZ and Yahoo are a great directory for both link and traffics. They are well known as a useful sources so many peoples (except most of us - webmasters) do use them as their secondary resources. Their link have a much weight because of their restriction on editorial (not quite sure about DMOZ on this).

If you do your site for a long term and not rely on PPC only then Yahoo is definitely worth it. $299 a year may look expensive, especially they do not offers any placement guarantee for what you've paid but it still worth it. If your site is quality enough I bet there should be no problem to got listed there.

You should consider to submit your site to Yahoo while it still can, because I've heard somewhere that many of Yahoo regional category do not accept new site inclusion for now. If Yahoo directory does close *or* not accept any new sites then it may be a big hole between sites.

As far as I can see, a listing in Yahoo helps your site rank better in Yahoo search engine and a listing in DMOZ, which becomes a listing in the Google directory, enhances your search engine results in Google.
