Hi, I have Jhosts.com Used to be a hosting business which shut down. I acquired the domain a while ago. Since the web hosting market is so saturated, i dont want to start another hosting company. What should i do with this domain ? I dont want to sell it. Should i start a blog, review hosting companies or what ? ideas ?? Regards
I think you are on the right track. A blog with reviews would be one good idea. Lots of hosting companies have affiliate programs, so that would be a way to go.
I guess you can do reviews but also let people to do them ! A site with real reviews would be good! Many companies cheat when it comes about their services!
I would start a hosting review website and the owner of the website can be called J and then you can brand it via a pen name at the same time. Work on all the major hosting companies (though stay away from Hostgator) and then write reviews, podcasts, videos, use social media and also provide how to guides showing people how to use hosting you could also branch out to affiliating wordpress themess and plugins and become a technical blog for people that are interested in hosting and getting the most out of their site.
Hosting is obviously a good subject for a blog or review site for this domain. However, I recall that in the U.S., there is a foreign exchange program that offers a J-1 Visa for people that allows them to stay with host families. There might be an opportunity there: http://j1visa.state.gov/hosts-and-employers/host-families/ Perhaps an informative blog for host families?
The hosting market is rather saturated. Thank you for not adding another one to the mix. As for the idea about starting a blog & reviewing hosting companies, I think that would be a huge benefit to many and may turn a nice profit in the end. Thanks for the opportunity to comment on this issue. Regards, etrafficforever
You could start an event hosting service and organize local events, like weddings, concerts, dances, or whatever; you could start another image, video or music hosting site; you could even create a business that offers advice and setups for other newbie hosting companies, sort of like a consultation and IT service for individuals wanting to run their own web hosting sites.
Thank for all the suggestions guys. Iam not a writer, guess i will have to hire them at a later stage. For now. Jhosts.com will go into hibernation. lol Cheers
you must start as a reseller, and acquiring hosting customers offline, work today and will work in 10 years the fact that there is a lot of offers is a very good sign lots of offline businesses are not internet savy , a few of my online customers only communicate by phone for their websites request. hostgator reseller start at 25$/month; i have an account and i have a few clients who pay residual hosting services at 300€/year. so it's a good and easy source of cash my 2 cents
Thanks Halille! Thats actually really good idea. I do the same with my other business. I think i might do that. Offline hosting promotion works. might try cloud access technology
I would definitely go with what George said and write some reviews on hosting companies. Like he said, many have affiliate programs and that could be an easy way to make some money. You could even throw up some hosting banners around the site, as well as ones for other marketing/business services. It would take some time to start getting traffic since that niche is a little saturated, but if you did a new review every week and did all the small hosting companies, too, you would constantly be adding content. You could even review other things like domain sites, since they are closely related to hosting. Content variety never hurts.
You are sitting on a goldmine @probo1 with this domain name in your court. I also second what @George Peirson suggest you do that way you will be leveraging on the backlinks and traffic from the formal owner without doing a lot of work.
