I have been out searching the net with the intention of starting my own personal blog. I have found a few different companies but would like to gain some feedback from people on this site to get some experienced opinions. So far I have bumped into this lot and my first impressions are shown too, basically I want to be able to customise it so it doesn't look like a basic template and also include a photo gallery. Are there any other useful features I might want to look out for when using a blog for personal use? Blogspot At first it appears basic but being able to customise the templates could be great...I have customised my vBulletin board and have some experience using CSS so I think this may have the level of customisation I am after movabletype Just download the software so will be installing this later on. Although from what I have read it also appears to have a high level of customisation Live journal This doesn't look at all good for a blog, but if you know of a good example then please say because I may be wrong
Blogger (blogspot) and Movable Type are both good. For me, I use Blogger because I don't need some of the advanced functions of MT (like classifying individual posts).
I use blogger...no problems so far...and as an added bonus...if you have the google toolbar, you can blog link any page just by clicking that icon
Great subject, SQUARESPACE.COM is one of the up and coming ASP's, the programmer is a 21 year old kid that is setting the Blog world on fire. I think he will be doing (just a guess) about 10 Million a month real soon. Young and smart like someone else we know who is a great coder and programmer, anyone know his name?
Wordpress is one I am just starting out with. (I have another one that is coldfusion based, but it's not exactly one of the standard ones out there). Anyway, so far, I like Wordpress.
Sun Microsystems just came out with a platform to support the following open source program. Look for big things to happen with this. http://www.rollerweblogger.org/wiki/Wiki.jsp?page=RollerUsers
I use Blogger, and on my own domain. Been using it since 2000. It's easy, quick enough, and has good options. Plus now that it's owned by Google I got an invite to GMail because I've been a long time user. So maybe Google will do this more often as they come out with new features/ventures.
Blogger is much more than it appears. It can be basic : pick a templage and blog away. Or complex : create your own design, host it anywhere, add your own ads, images, links or whatever you want.
I am starting to think that Blogger is definitely the one, except to see a link to my blog very soon Thanks for the input so far peeps

I've only used Blogger and am satisfied with everything it offers, the main reason I think it's decent is because it allows me to blog from anywhere, see the following http://toseef-saleem.blogspot.com/2004/08/ive-clocked-it-now-i-can-blog-from.html Damn I cant post a link untill I have 10 posts!
I use blogger. I did experiment with a few other options, but that was the easiest to use. I would love to give MT a try - Seen some lovely blogs using that. (Including the Y! blog) I also used a ColdFusion blog for a while, but itdrove me nuts (Too many features to f**k up). Incase you are interested, it is called nucleus. Great bit of software though. Loads of really good plugins, rangine from a mod-rewrite alternative, all the way to Uber SEO stuff. Pretty cool.
I recently started using blogger and I really like it! Very easy to customize and I was able to insert adsense ads in the right spot on the 1st try .
I use Blogger too. It's nice and easy. My one disappointment in it was that when they made some recent changes it quit working correctly in Netscape, so I have to open Explorer now to do my posts. Going to have to check one of these days if they've fixed it yet or not.
i go for geocities because its allowed me to specify the design i need plus i can add my own advertisment to support the development fund.
