What are your views on indirect linking

I have two PR5 sites on two different servers (totally different Class C) that I want use for indirect linking. I believe that Google is on to reciprical linking and that it is not as effective as it once was. With that in mind I have been offereing link exchanges with other related sites with similiar PR where they link to my site A and I give them a link from my site B. Site A does not link to site B so there is no triagle. To me this is a way of getting a one way link. Is there a name for this type of linking? Do you think it will be effective?

This is 3 way linking, I personally doubt Google is de-valuing reciprocal linking but its very possible that they are or will do in the future so it is good that you are building 3 way links.

You say you are exchanging links with sites that are related, if Google was to de-value reciprocal linking then in my opinion they would not devalue links to other sites with the same theme.

The reason I doubt Google is de-valuing reciprocal links is that I have seen no proof of this on my own sites, I link between my sites, I have my own class C IP range and all the sites are on the same range, I do not see this having any negative effect.

    Matt,

Thank you for your input. How long have you been linking between your sites? What kind of linking do you do? Anchor text link or text and description link or URL only link? Where do you place the links? On the homepage or a links page or on many pages per site? Is the PR high on all your sites? I have read that is is bad to interlink sites, but I have seen many sites that rank well and interlink their sites. In the past I had links to my other related sites, but after a bad Google update last year I panicked and removed all links. The sites are doing even worse since I removed the links.

i don't think it is a good idea to link between sites. to me that seems like the easiest thing for a bot to figure out. there may not be a strong case against it right now, but should there be a strong case, it would be real easy to wipe it from the serps. 3 way linking is a good idea, but mix it up with some reciprocal links too so it does not looked staged.

3 way linking is good idea but the problem is other webmasters easily get confuse if you offer it and most auto link-verification script doesn't allow that.
