What are your goals with your directory? Is it to get a high page rank? Is it to be able to charge for links? Is your goal to get 1,000 or 5,000 listings? Is your goal to be one of the most known directorys on the web? Have you made any of your previous goals? Did you pass a milestone number of submissions? Did you finally get your ultimate PR goal? Alot of questions were just thrown at you, if it applies to you pick a couple, if not, set a goal for yourself and try to accomplish it. -Tim
Solicitations & Announcements (17 Viewing) If you are a directory owner announcing a new directory (or compiling a list of directories), looking for submissions or a user looking for directories to submit to, this is where the request should go.
It will be interesting what others have in mind in terms of goals. (realistically speaking of course) Rob
There is nothing important to me than taking my directory to top 10. Money, PR and the rest comes next.
A nice PR (5 or over) A nice index of QUALITY sites. A nice, clean and easy to use/navigate design. A respected directory that is used by people other then people submitting websites.
I have a directory that reached the 6k listings with only quality sites, with more or less 3 > 15 sites per categories. Half of it was added manually, i do that for traffic.
I find mine to be "floating" goals. When I started the $5 a day was a goal and when that was reached the goal became $10 then $20, $50, $75$, $100 and so on Same with pagerank/strength. You reach one goal, and then want more So think its is hard to set precise goals on vairables like that. I belive a general goal for directory owners is and should be to build a qualitative enough site (onsite and offsite) to have good SERPS and not end up in eg. supplemental results. And that is easiers said than done
I think that the work is on-going. If a person ever gets to the point they think they have reached all of their goals, they did not set high enough goals. This pertains to anything in life, and not just a directory. --Jamey
Yes i hope to will get pr5 or 6 Currently pr0 also i receive a lot of submission every day Currently not most viewed but in the future i will work to this
This is a great thread, glad you started it. So here are my current goals: 1). Be known as one of the top 10 directories on the web. 2). Rank all of my inner page categories on the first page of the search engines. 3). Become the next pr 8 directory. 4.) Get 10 times more aggressive with advertising. 5). Provide quality listings for users. Those are my top 5 for now.
I didnt even answer my own question DP members inspire me all the time and i love to hear success stories, dreams and goals. Here are mine. Goals: 1. To get my brand out there and recognized 2. Build up a strong recognizable reputation 3. Have a quality directory with decent PR and SERP ranking 4. Have it generate income while i sleep 5. Get a good traffic rank and finally start some good partnerships. Ofcourse my goals are always being tweaked, but its solid in my mind. -Tim
What are your goals with your directory? To be the resource to finding quality sites and information in my niche - arts and crafts. While there are many link farm sites and a handful of other directories - many broken links on most of them; my goal is to offer an alternative. Is it to get a high page rank? High page rank not so much, respectable 4-5 would be nice. Hopefully, G has finally straightened out my early hosting mistakes. p.s. Don't ever have a site as a subdomain during a G update unless they are truly related. grrrrrrr Is it to be able to charge for links? That would be nice, but is only a part of how I see my site as being successful. Is your goal to get 1,000 or 5,000 listings? No set number, but would like to always have at least a few good offerings for each category and each keyword/phrase that I am fairly well ranked for. Is your goal to be one of the most known directorys on the web? Within my niche, I would like to become "the place to go for information". Have you made any of your previous goals? Yes, and as others have said as soon as one is met; the next is set. Did you pass a milestone number of submissions? Yes, my next one is to have at least one site, preferably 2 in every category and subcategory. And to start adding some of the categories that I've held off on until the current ones are all active. Did you finally get your ultimate PR goal? Hoping this time G has my site finally sorted out and I can see the results. Ultimate PR goal? Not sure I have an ultimate goal; would simply like to finally get the rank my site deserves.
A few goals...one to get a steady stream of eyes to the site to hopefully get an ad from another monitized site in front of them, and to use some email marketing ONLY for the specific site that they signed up for though... Overall, pretty much an experiment!
My goal for my Niche directory is for it to be strictly paid and reciprocal. This will turn it into an attractive directory that only serious players would want to be in. The site that it is a part of will be very big soon. I have invested quite heavily in both the site and the directory to make them both very appealing. I have taken lot of notes from Aviva and Forplex. So, the next month or so should be quite interesting. Col
You got two of mine Is your goal to be one of the most known directorys on the web? Yes Is your goal to get a high page rank? yes yes yes
