All you need is one. Learn to do it effectively and you will be set. If you do anything half-assed, you won't get results. If you do it well, you'll get 100% of the results. If you do it better than everyone else, you'll get very good results.
Reciprocal link exchanges have lost their value nowadays. Google isn't giving them as much weight as they used to. I would suggest investing in making great articles on your topic and getting them placed on other popular and high ranked pages in the same niche as you. In-content links on high PR pages can increase your rank on search engines significantly.
