It is so hard to get a new domain name that actually means something. What are we going to do in 10 years when most of the words in the dictionary are taken...well most of them are already taken now..lol You can see it happening now...all these web 2.0 domain names are being registered every day. Do you think domains will be worth a lot more in 10 years then what they are now. Lets say you're launching a new social networking site in 10 years from now. What in the word are you going to call it. You will have to come up with some weird names.
its going to have to be 'Brandable' then, for us now, we have the chance to get the 'last' of the good domains, i have a few nice ones now, it shouldn't be much of a problem for 'us' as were here now, but for start ups in 10 years it may be more difficult, I think there bring out a new ',com' maybe try relaunching the .web and internet users are getting more clever there starting to use the .nets, .orgs etc there still b e plenty of opportunity in 10 years but will be harder to rank well in google.
They will make new domain name extensions. When all the best names are gone they will set up new domain name and sell same names again.
Yeah that's interesting I can't see the ',com' taking off too quickly when it arrives with big startups since all the typo traffic for '.com' would be huge .web could be a gold rush when it comes out though
Well with IP addresses they came out with IPv6 and more octets. Maybe we can change the www to more variations, or do like subdomains and sell domain names with more .'s ;-)
how about clearing out all the TLDs which are doing nothing...theres so many out there just parked on ad sites and stuff.
I doubt they will create any new extensions there are far too many out there as it is. Mostly likely the "less common" ones like .net or .org will become more popular in the future.
I think it will take longer than 10 years for the current domain situation to be bad enough to require some action. If you look hard enough, you can always find something. It requires a bit of creativity as well.
I feel happy when someone asks this type of question. Offcourse something will be very new and unbelieve-able but yeh in 10 years i will be a very rich person in my country Thanks GOD i am into it's early days and what it is? it's the internet money making world.
I think the earlier poster nailed it, there will be new domain extensions. I also think that there will be a lot more IMing and emailing. Today people usually have two phones (cell and land), some have more. 10 years from now we will probably have 20 email addresses minimum and be in a constant stream of contact through some kind of heads up display or beam that shoots images directly into your retina. We will be online practically 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
Imagine how jealous our kids will be when we were here for the birth of the INTRANET and domain name marketing.
If all/nearly all usable domains are snatched up and they do introduce a new extension, they'll just get taken straight away by the people that just park thousands of domains (most of which will never be sold). So i reckon that should introduce a load of new extensions which have a category name, eg: .forum .shop - then hopefully people will stop buying all these just to have parked, with no use
Extensions is the only answer. They add new ones all the time.. like .mobi We have to watch, wait, and see about a lot of things.. like.. where is the internet going? It's on phones now? It's on tv? Tv is on computer? It's all a mess right now.. I wish someone somehow would start to organize things a little better instead of just slopping them all onto .com's
