in the last few days ive heard a few publishers increase the ammount of money they give to their affiliates, calling it "upselling", what does that mean, exactly?
After they purchase a product, they usually have the ability to "upgrade" their purchase to a premium/platinum package. For example, if they buy an ebook, the upsell might be step by step video tutorials or something like that. Sometimes there's two of them as well. This is generally known as an OTO as well, a one time offer. The idea is that once they trust you enough to give you their money, they'll do it again. And it works. I've heard of OTOs converting 70%, but that's pretty extreme. Somewhere around 30% is normal. Basically, you're leaving a lot of money on the table if you don't do this.
Okay thank you (+rep). for example, you would be selling a fat loss product, and then, once the customer has paid 50$ for the guide and gets on the page, he is asked if he wants to pay another 30$ to have the super-muscle-building guide too. Thats right?
no.. thats a backend sale. upsell is when they are asked to purchase a better package before they purchase anything.
damn, google wins again well thats how I look at it anyway. upsell - upgrade the purchase backend sale - sell them something else after they have already purchased
Looks like an interesting thing to do, I am giving away free products and I'm wondering if I could upsell to them after they download the product? Or should I just stick with the email marketing to them?
