What are the ways to promote a squidoo lens

I created a squidoo lens yesterday. It was about a affiliate product. Within 24 hours it got me one sale. i just don't have any experience with squidoo before but i just understood the difference between a normal landing page and an squidoo page.

What are the basic methods to promote a squidoo page. A normal website can be promoted by social bookmarking, directory submission , etc.

Can i submit a squidoo page to a directory. I hope not because it will be considered as a deep link. if anyone have any previous experience with squidoo promotion please guide me in this.

    Advanced thanks

I don't want to shamelessly advertise my fantastic report about making money with Squidoo lenses (I talk about the best ways to promote a Squidoo lens in the report), but you can download it for free, if you click on the second link in my sig. :D

You can use article marketing with Squidoo lenses. This will help build backlinks to your lens and get you ranked higher. Just try and get as many links as possible pointing back to your lens from different sources. You can also try to experiment with setting up other social network sites like HubPages and MySpace and linking them to your lens.

Thanks for your valuable tips. I will try with hubpages and link them to my squidoo page. let's see how it goes.

I have also downloaded a free report about squidoo mentioned above. I will try to make full use of it.

HubPages is good, but don't duplicate content when you're publishing there.

I've written a lens on using Gather to promote your lenses if you want to have a read of it.

This looks a much better combination.

    Squidoo
    Hubpages
    gather

I just started with squidoo and now I came to know about other 2 similar sites.

    Hi Reprobate ,
Can you show some of your similar articles posted to all these 3 sites. i checked your drums article in gather.com. If I am not wrong you should have posted a similar article to squidoo and hubs too. What is the linking structure between these 3 articles and do you use any other similar sites.

Thanks very much for sharing your ideas here

There should be a link from the Gather article on drums to my tutorial series at Squidoo. In any case here it is: http://www.squidoo.com/drumsanddrumming (published on a different account I have at Squidoo).

I haven't published a hub on drums yet. I probably should. Once I can find something different to write about it.

I promote my lens like any other site!
I use article marketing, social bookmarking, classified sites, etc. One of my pages was even featured on cool pick of the day.
You should have no problem with your lens, except for traffic exchanges and offline marketing, I tried traffic swarm and they denied me because squidoo uses frames. As for offline not many people will remeber a long squidoo url, so I purchased a domain name and "forward" it to my lens. I choose Video Sharing Kingdom for the lens in my sig., it sounds much better, don't you think. I hope this helps!

You can definitely promote a squidoo lens just like any other web site. No need to overcomplicate it by worrying too much about the linking structure. You can also build lenses on similar subjects in the same niche and link those lenses together. Just be sure to link with contextual keywords from your other sites. You can also ping your lens using the rss feed link in the left side column and pingoat.com

lensroll.com, isleofsquid.com and squidu.com can all be used to promote Squidoo lenses.

The best ways to get more search engine traffic to a lens are to make sure that it has original content, is tagged properly (including long tail tags) and is focussed on a specific niche.

Thanks for the links. This thread is helping me a lot. I made my second affiliate sale using the squidoo lens which i created when i started this thread.

I also added my squidoo lens to mybloglog community. I am not sure if it's allowed. Does anyone here know how to add java script to a squidoo lens. Is there a separate module for doing so.

Thanks everyone for sharing your knowledge regarding squidoo, I have learnt a lot in recent days.

You can't add java script to a Squidoo lens. It will get filtered out.

The main reason why I asked it was for adding the tracking code provided by mybloglog. I am also interested in adding googe analytics if possible. Just now I joined squidu forum. thanks. It is useful. i can find some answers to my questions there. I also submitted my lens to isleofsquid.com. Let's see how it goes.

Javascript, as Think_Big has pointed out, can't be used in lens modules. Neither can Google Analytics.

Now I have another problem with my lens. After creating the lens I did some social bookmarking stuff and all other promotion and link building advice given here. I got a decent traffic from google fro some 5 to 6 days. Now the traffic has decreased a lot. It's just 12 or 14 visits per day from google now. What should I do. Do more link building or update my squidoo and add more fresh content.

Does it important to update my lens regularly as we do for a blog?

Search engine traffic drops like yours are not uncommon. A lens can at times get 100+ visitors per week and then drop down to zero. Then in a few weeks it can pick right back up again. The main thing I would do is check that you have tags that web surfers are likely to type into a search engine when looking for your lens topic. Use phrases as tags as well as single words.

Another tip is to go to squidutils.com straight after you update your lens and use the ping function on the advanced dashboard there. This will notify various search engines that your lens has been updated.

There are Squidoo lenses that get hundreds of visitors per week and make very few sales. Yet there are lenses with less rhan 10 visitors per week that make regular sales. It's better to have a small amount of quality traffic rather than a ton of people just having a look. The key to Squidoo lens success is to think NICHE.

Keeping a lens fresh and updated is important but if a lens is getting plenty of traffic it can still keep a fairly high lensrank without being updated.
