What are the ways to monetize a wordpress blog?

All of us agree that wordpress is miles better than blogpsot ( http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1026090&goto=newpost ) but the problem is that small publishers also would like to earn something from their writing and wordpress does not let them do so,

Is there any way through which we can monetize our free wordpress blog?
Why wordpress doesn't let everyone use ads as blogspot do?

    Thanks

There are many ways to monetize your wordpress blog. There is Google adsense, selling ad space, or even selling links. But you do have to host it somewhere else like Steupz said.

I don't think you can monetize your blog if its hosted at wordpress.com blogs. They might allow affiliate links, but I'm not sure.

I would use a self-hosted wordpress blog, then you can monetize it however you wish without restrictions. Grab a $4/month shared hosting plan.

I'm pretty sure they block most ads on wp.com. No reason not to self-host.

Hosting is so cheap now! With a self hosted site, you have ALL the control on what put on your blog/site and how you do it. A top domain url is also preferrable over a subdomain, like yourname.blogspot.com or yourname.wordpress.net.

Nope, I've found it relatively intuitive. For some things it is a good idea to know what the code looks like and how to adapt for your needs. Early on before you have any traffic, you can use trial and error.

Go for it, little reason not to. If you build up your PR, you can generate revenue from text link or banner sales.

Best way is to host a wordpress blog yourself, find a decent theme which is adsense friendly.

If you get lots of traffic then you will make lots of $$$.

If you get a real domain name and host it yourself there are endless options. It does not cost much and if you think your site can be monatized for a fair amount of money there is no reason to delay!

The best thing to do is get yourself a free host like opensourcesetup or x10hosting or ismywebsite.com and install wordpress there with the help of fantastico. Neither of them have any sort of ads and gives you cpanel, where you can install the Wordpress MU platform.

Those three are kinda reliable, specially x10 and ismywebsite so with the help of them I am sure that you will be able to monetize better.

host your wordpress blog. then use adsense, affiliate programs such as commisionJunction to get targetted ads, or perhaps amazon, ebay ads as well depending on the blog topics
May be sell some links, sell posts and banner space as well :)
