Hi, I am new to wordpress and have just installed my new blog. Now before starting posting in it, I want to configure it properly with all the tools that people uses to get more visitors like rss and ping(that's all I know) Can someone tell me what plugins do I need to install it ? How about blogrolls ? tags ? sorry for a little vague question as I am myself don't know the exact terms Regards
go to the wordpress forum support they are the best for wordpress and they answer pretty fast also ping its an embedded feature i think wordpress pings to pingomatic if u wanna add more ping sites just ask on wordpress, theres also a google sitemap plugin, technorati tags etc
Hi Poseidon, I'm just two weeks into WordPress, so I know what you're going through in these early stages. Here's a little of what I've figured out: > By default WordPress is already set up to use pingomatic, though it seems like some people are liking pingoat a little more these days. You can go to Options/Writing to view the pingomatic info, or change it to pingoat with this line: http://pingoat.com/goat/RPC2 I'm still researching the whole ping thing, and there are lots of services out there that will ping a whole bunch of feeds automatically, but you have to be careful about ping spamming...since some of these services ping the same destinations. Right now I just have pingoat in there. > The blogroll is just a list of your favorite blogs. For now, you can either keep what's there, hide them, or add your own (through the links menu). > I've changed my theme from the default. There are some great themes all over the net, and I got mine here: http://themes.wordpress.net/ . > I installed several plugins, including: :: installer (makes installing plugins easier) :: optimal title (modifies the way your title appears on blog feeds to post title/URL rather than URL/post title) :: adsense deluxe (simplifies adsense-coding) :: adhesive (makes posts sticky) :: content show/hide (great with longer posts) :: dagon design sitemap generator (for your visitors) :: google sitemaps (just a bunch of code for the search engines) :: ultimate tag warrior (will help with tags) and a couple of others. I also activated the WordPress Backup plugin, and as my content is changing daily right now since my blog is new, I'm backing up the db file at least once a day (learned this the hard way!). I personally have not found the wordpress forum that helpful for beginners, though there's some good info there...I think a lot of it presumes a real comfort level with php, which I don't have. I'm already re-thinking the category structure of my site, so that's something to give some thought to. Anyway, as I'm developing my site, I'm logging my steps along the way, so feel free to visit my site for more details and specific links. I'm just starting to write an article about the plugins that I've started out with. My URL is http://www.wordpress-adsense-system.com Hope this helps a bit. ~ Kat
submit your blog to the ever growing blog directories. search for the best in the directories section of this forum. i personally recommend blogannounce by keith.
