I'm sure to a certain extent that's true, but so what? The types of things that page strength measures are all important to a directory. If people are working to increase their directory's inbound links, traffic, etc, that's not a bad thing! The useless .edu links are probably the only weakness in the measure, but that's unlikely to explain the phenomenon in full.

BTW - when are you going to update your ILQ list?

 

I think any benchmark that the formula is widely known by the public is subject to manipulation, there is nothing you can do.

Normally represents the importance of the rating system, if people are faking it is because they find it important.

 

Personally i find that a site with good page strength is better than a site with good page rank... id rather have my link on a page strength 6 site than on a pr6 site that has page strength 2.5....

Like Jeff said, if people are optimizing their sites to climb Page strength, they are actually doing good to the overall directory too...

 

I dont understand ???? So the only way possible you could know these are the best directories is product that was sold from index in each directory on the board, because this is a directories job.

It isn't popularity/ blogs,tools, free tool and so on doesnt sell product.. it gives you alittle higher %, but it doesn't tell me my site was more productive.

It isn't pr, because half the board looses pr every update, and that doesn"t sell product.

Cant be serp count, because my site beats 3/4 or more of the sites listed..

Im not trying to sarcastic, but for making such a strong statement i believe there should be some hard proof that these are the strongest links, because seo tools dont cut it.

This is like there is a 35% chance it might be true, and i might be batting alittle high on the % age.

The fact that the mean pagestrength has increased is a combination of a lot of factors in my opinion.
Some of them include
1. The recent Yahoo update - backlinks for most sites I have checked skyrocketed
2. Adding technoratti links to the formula (at least for me that was a big boost)
3. People pay more attention to some of the metrics pagestrength uses to calculate results
4. People are working harder on their directories because competition has increased a lot.

As I have said before each metric is only usefull only when you realize that it has limitations and what are those limitations. Can PS be skewed? of course it can, all I have to do is add 2yi.net at a couple of my big sites (to get 100% at name visibility), register at several phpbb forums (to get 100% technoratti), pay a company that provides social bookmarking services to increase my del.icio.us score, start posting comments at .gov and .edu blogs (yahoo picks them up anyways) etc (and no I haven't used any of the above)
