What are the pros/cons of email marketing (blasting)?

Hi, my business website is relatively new. Less than a year old. We have been attracting customer mostly through pay-per-click advertising. We have just started doing SEO work (which will take many months to rank).

I want to know if using one of the services that offer a large email database and then do the emailing for us is an effective way to generate more traffic and potentially customers. There are many companies that will send out 300k+ emails for less than $100.
Most people will frown upon this, but I figure if I can get some sales and more people knowing our name, it is a minimal investment. Are there any cons using this email blasting service, such as legal repercussions for 'blasting'? I would be interested to hear some opinions on this. Thank you.

I also would like an answer. Email marketing is something that should not be forgotten because one thing we can all assume is that every single internet user has an email address. I too have contemplated doing email advertising but have held off because I am not sure if it would work for my sites.

I would advise against it... I havent done it but I have read on a few other forums that people have tried this and they have gotten "return to sender" e-mails..most of these e-mails are junk e-mails anyway..if you do use these e-mail blasting services people will consider it spam. You are already using PPC so it would be better if you build a landing page to get the customers e-mail and name give something away that will help them (provide value).. Then develope a relationship with them so then people will trust you.. so therefore you will make more sales. People buy from people that they trust.

There are number of companies provide email marketing solutions.
But what i think is email marketing comes handy only for a short time frame and that too for the first time. Once people see your emailer in the inbox for the second time, they will start ignoring it or would mark it as spam.

Spamming people, sadly as much as you may say it differently it basically is, just does not work. Search Engines will blacklist you. Your domain will be auto detected as spam and your company credit would be gone. At the start it may get you a few extra users but you will be causing more harm to you and your website.

for my thoughts, the email - marketing is a out-of-date marketing way, and now most of the mail severs have anti-spam tactics , so , maybe you should try something new~

    Absolutely agree with you VinaJJones589,

There was a random report I seen a few months ago saying spam has gone down by 70% by the following year.

explains that massive change in this market made it highly ineffective.
