Flash intro's always tend to slow the site down. No user wants to wait forever for the next page to low.

Pro: Flash intros are able attractive.

Sometimes flash looks great when it's put in the right place, I don't believe that place is an intro. If you must use it put it somewhere in your content and please don't use sound.

Flash Intros can be good, though as a splash screen they can be a bad idea. SEO is really difficult because there is no actual content aside from the flash. A good solution would be to integrate a homepage layout with a large space allocation for a flash sequence / animation. That way all menu's are present and users can jump to the information that they require, and Search engines can read through the text / links and index appropriately.

A lot of the business owners that I deal with, building sites, like the idea of having a flash intro. They think it's cool.

Most of the people who visit their sites are really not impressed by a flash intro. They are usually confused by it and won't wait for it to load.

    I'd advise against using it.

Flash intros totally miss the entire point of web media, which is to construct engagement between an audience and a media producer (in more communicationtheoryish terms, its mass-interpersonal media). Making some one stop, disengage, and observe misses the point, and will likely drive away traffic.

That isnt to say that video content is bad (anything but) but when its used in such a way that it disengages a user from their purpose (like in a flash intro) it only does harm.
