You are not marketing. You are just doing what everyone else does.

Marketing is the process of figuring out WHO your customers are, WHERE they go, and WHAT they want. Then when you know this information you know where to advertise. After that you are no longer Marketing, you are selling.

Clearly you have not figured out who your customer is.

Promote Your Local Business on the Internet. These days many people search for local businesses on the Internet. To make sure they find you, include on every page of your website the street address, zip code, phone number, and the five or 10 other local community place names your business serves. If you can, include place names in the title tag, too. When you seek links to your site, you should request links from local businesses with place names in the communities you serve and complementary businesses in your industry nationwide.

Depending on what your site does, you may be able to post in craigslist to advertise a bit.

    What does your site do?

Seems like you are ommitting blogging. With each blog post, you are creating a fresh page on your site which is vital for search engine ranking. Make sure you incude your anchor text on the content of your blog.

Thou all of the above method will take some time and patience. Remember, you need to build momentum (traffic) to your site.

Facebook may indeed be popular and all but I'm not really sure if there are many users doing Facebook in "shopping/buying" mode. I am confident that you don't want only traffic to your site but real sales, right?

If you are trying to sell your goods or services, maybe you can try other social media sites more related to what your website offers. For one, you may try Linkedin and start networking with other professionals or groups that may be interested with the product that you sell.

Lots of traffic and website hits would mean nothing if nothing is sold and that
the visitors that come to your websites are just there because they got lost somewhere in cyberspace.

. Promote Your Video, Images, and Audio Content. Google's "universal search" displays not only webpage content, but also often displays near the top of the page relevant listings for images, videos, local businesses (see #11 above), and audio clips. Therefore, consider creating such content appropriate to your business and then optimizing it so it can be ranked high enough to help you. For example, if you were to get a top-ranking, informative video on YouTube (www.youtube.com) that mentions your site, it could drive a lot of traffic to your site. For more information, search on "optimizing images" or "optimizing videos."

Create a Site Map. A site map page with links to all your pages can help search engines (and visitors) find all your pages, particularly if you have a larger site. You can use a free tools, XML-Sitemaps.com (www.wilsonweb.com/afd/xml-sitemaps.htm) to create XML sitemaps that are used by the major search engines to index your webpages accurately. Upload your sitemap to your website. Then submit your XML sitemap to Google, Yahoo!, and Bing (formerly MSN), following instructions on their sites. By the way, Google Webmaster Central (www.google.com/webmasters/) has lots of tools to help you get ranked higher. Be sure to set up a free account and explore what they have to offer.

I think this is a very big big problem. I also built up my site not long ago. I had tried some normal ways to promote my site(maybe I should called my work as SEO job not marketing job). Write article, PR, submit to social bookmark, creating blog, comment on blog... This is what I will do when I submit products to my website.

I do not think there will be a new way that you do not know to marketing your website. In fact, most people know how to promote their website. As I state out before, people know those ways. But not all of them are suitable for you. You can try and pick up the most workable one for you, and keep promoting on those ways that will bring you sales.

For me, I think the best way and normal way is to write a good product page for your customers not only Google or other search engine. You are working for your customers but Google. Keep offering the more details to your customers on products page. This will work one day. I do not like to copy from others.

Just make out your own way on your site. Customers will come and thank you if you can keep doing this normal jobs.

That is my lesson. Hope it can help.

Yes, finding out who your customers are and what they want is crucial in any business. Once you have this information you can use blog marketing, which in my opinion is essential for most modern businesses these days.

What you want is to base your business around your blog. Link everything back to your blog and eventually create a community for your business. Make new and interesting blog posts every week that invites people to post comments where they can ask questions and you can give them the answers. From your blog your customers will eventually find what they want and know where to go to get it.
