I think financial services is one of them, and possibly the biggest, but very hard to get into considering law and red tape. Ethics asside, maybe pills porn and casinos are most profitable. Ethics back onside, and financial services discounted, maybe hotels and holidays? What do you think are the most profitable industries?
Entertainment industry, Movies, music, games etc, you create a product once and sell it multiple times to thousands of ppl
Drugs, Guns and Women. Just kidding. I think gambling and casinos are most profittable. Also offering something completely unique and useful to the market can bring you to the top (take Microsoft or the owner of the Million Pixel Ads website owner for example).
I would agree with you in the past, but not anymore. The entertainment industry is dying slowly and painfully, even if I don't want to say it, because of losing investment from sharing illegally on the Internet.

Well high on my list would be drugs as in cocaine etc, porn, anything in the government politics world, gambling and religion. But on a sensible note id say gambling, pharmaceuticals, insurance, and the fitness and supplements industry, because theres a lot of insecure people in the world.
Depend on country. We dont have global economy yet. I think energy industry bit all of them, average oil seller can buy half of hollywood or most of football clubs of EU or all baseball and NHL clubs of USA - if he spend all his money ofcourse
I know I keep steady work in the gaming world, and play w/ poker players online who are trying to capitalize. I also know a friend in the sex industry, and her website is getting between 1000 and 5000 hits depending on the day. Beyond that, I'd venture to guess the political world as well as energy. both are always on the tounge regardless of the country.

Adult business is still growing by leaps and bounds. So are theme sites for social networks. Online gambling and drugs are expanding as well. Who knew, all the illegal stuff does well on the internet!

Im in the manufacturing sector (electronic components and chemicals specificly) My companies take £800,000 in fiscal year 2008 (1.6 million dollars) I used to be involved in mining and found it costly.
The insane profits they made are gone; the 'dying off slowly'; there will always be people wanting this entertainment so there will always be a market, but (hopefully) not with recordcompanies/labels/etc stuffing their pockets full of money over the backs over the creators. Creative bands/gamecompanies/moviecompanies will always make enough cash, even be very very profitable. Crappy and/or lazy people (like some bands, movies and games I could mention) will die off, but the world would be a better place for it; they should not have had the chances they had in the past in the first place IMHO. Currently, in the in-between period, it is still a goldmine, no matter what the RIAA etc wants us to believe.
