What are the most popular directory scripts currently used and which of these are in a shortage of unique template designs?

    so far my list is

Phpld and sitesift... are there other scripts that are currently used right now?
im trying to produce some templates for free downloads.

Also if i produce a template, would it be compatible on any of these scripts, or is there a guideline i need to follow for each specific script?

thanks for the list... would a common directory template work on any of these scripts, or does each script require some type of unique coding in order to implement the template?

Each directory script is written differently, and obviously will have different template codes and functions. The only thing they all have in common is HTML markup which is always the same.

    this comment is about phpLD

phpLD is good but is some kind of primordial , time consuming and not intuitive at all .

1-the lack of "remember me" for the login of the administrator.

2- to check the payment while checking the new link you have to go somewhere else. Another column with the payment status would save a lot of time.

    3. Everything is explained in a way that you have to ask support to interpret a very simple task like the upgrade.

4- free mods like deep links are not inserted into script becouse there are similar mods sold by the support staff at $100.

    Hi,

Thanks for your constructive feedback about esyndicat software.

We have always paid the greatest attention to all customers needs and requests. Actually you are the first person who mentions 'remember me' functionality for administrator :) It's not a problem and it would be implemented in our next releases if you posted your request in our Feature Requests forum. Personally I do not need this functionality as all modern browsers have save passwords functionality, and your passwords are kept on your PC.
#2. in our 2.1 version you do not have to go somewhere else.. you should just mouse over a full info icon next to link and you'll see if it's paid or not. It's also not a problem. Just ask in the forums how to add a column if you really need it and the tech guys will offer a solution for you
#3. The only problem with upgrade is upgrade of customized templates. If you have non modified version the upgrade is a very simple task
#4. :) actually, we always offer you the choice.. we can not release a new version after new added feature. we have a todo list and work close to it. if you need any modification that does not exist in our version it will take additional time. We always say - 'want it urgently - pay, ready to wait for a new version - please wait'. We never make folks pay and our major idea is to develop a full featured software.

    Again, thanks for your feedback

Most would certainly agree, but I wouldn't. :) Nice to see phpLynx in the list seeing the full version has only been released a week, http://www.cantufind.com/forum/showpost.php?p=4021&postcount=1

Pound for pound using features out of the box and price comparison wise phpLynx wins hands down and the full version is only a week old with free support as well, no hidden prices for mods which put me off the top dogs as without the mods the scripts are pretty weak, and that comes from a coder too, 'ME', only annoying thing with phpLynx for me personally is that as a coder I can't get to the code to rip it apart but I don't blame them for doing it.

On a plus note for some other scripts is that there are some pretty good coders out there, with one or two of them actually knowing how to write clean code which is nice, and the abundance of templates not only for esyndicat but all the rest of the more popular ones.

We'll all have our preferences and each and every script has thier merits and down sides, key to it is to make your own choice based on several factors but I won't mention them here as its not my thread.

All goes for healthy competiton I'd say, me I made my choice and going to stick with it for now, second choice would be phpld over esyndicat, third choice wsnlinks.

I just noticed this feedback. I'll discuss it with some of the other phpLD staff.

For #1, we didn't add remember me as a security precaution (just like phpBB and vBulletin don't do this). For #2 we are completely revamping the payment system, so you should see some improvement there in the next update. For #3, upgrading takes most people just a few minutes, though it can be perplexing to a first timer. For #4, it is true we tried to be considerate toward an0n, a phpLD mod developer, because he did a great job supporting the mod, and also helped a lot of people on this forum. Recently, another member on this forum released a similar mod for free, so this is no longer an issue for this mod.

I'm obviously sold on phpLinkBid. ;) So many things I want to improve on too, just a matter of time to see it get even better.

phpld is a great and mature script. I have no experience with other solutions personally!
