What are the most difficult niches to monetise and make money from?

My guess is humor/ comedy niche, quiz/ tests niche. cos most web users expect these niches to be free. And there is less stuff and limitations to what advertisers can advertise on such sites. Comedy videos/ humor books? Quiz/ tests books?

I think most would say the more competitive niches like weight loss and internet marketing or loans where it is harder and more expensive to get traffic.

However, I once tried to sell some bass amplifiers and got thousands of product name hits to my site and sold like 3 amplifiers.

So I would vote the most difficult niche to make money in is one where people don't want to buy or don't want to buy online.

I'd have to go with social networking, with Facebook and Twitter it's prolly really really hard to compete with them meaning it's harder to get users and users equals money.

You’d be surprised what niches have buyers in them. Really any niche that solves a problem has monetary potential. And Terry, topics like weight loss & internet marketing are some of the best niches to make money off of, you just have to approach it right – no targeting the top level, super competitive terms. You’ve got to dig a bit deeper into a good sub-niche for these markets but they are excellent markets.

You’re worst niches to make money off of from an internet marketing standpoint are those niches where the audience really is not internet savvy (i.e. they buy things from physical stores but haven’t jumped on the internet bandwagon yet).

Yah I have two comedy websites, and they do get a fair amount of adsense however due to the subject of humor, the clicks are normally very low. http://sayingsfunny.com and http://picsfunnypics.com both get a fair amount of traffic but again the adsense clicks are next to worthless!

I imagine free hosting would be hard to profit with as well.

Free Hosting is not hard top profit at all. These hosts have so many users on their sites. They have multiple methods to make money from. Few place ads on their users' sites, few have upgrade to paid plan option where they make money from Affiliate accounts, few sell links and the list goes on..

IMO, the hardest way to make money online is from general blogs. There are thousands of blogs and to optimize such general blogs is too difficult.

If you are looking at an adsense type site, you really want to stay away from gaming and tech. These users are just too savvy usually to click any ads.

I would say highly competitive areas like casino and how to make money online etc definitely ones that you can't really sell a product or something to. Its hard to say tbh because at the end of the day its probably possible to make money in them all even with the likes of adsense. However ones that are extremely competitive can be near impossible to get on top of but if you do you can make a lot. smaller niches may have no competition what so ever but they may be so dry there could be little money made which is better than none.
