    You probably already have a domain. I would consider a new one with your keyword in the domain. Look at the Adsense Flippers website, they offer a free book on SEO optimization for blogs.

    I usually tell my clients to add 100 pages of unique content to their website before they even try to do any SEO stuff. This will help you establish trust.

    - Use appropriate Title with keywords for your posts
    - Tag your blog posts.
    - Use Keywords in your posts.
    - Know what people are searching for
    - Stay in your niche

    - Encourage interaction
    - Get your name out there

    As your site is new so you should add content regularly and it would help a lot in increasing ranking of your site after one or two months, believe me!

    Apart from content creation, you can do slow and relevant link building too!

    If you created your blog using Wordpress then I'd recommend updating your permalinks to use the post name. That way you don't have horrid page links & it will help you get indexed faster by google.

    As for the rest, providing daily & quality content is what will get your blog up there.
