    DMOZ is obvious but what other free directories?

    I have an interesting question related to that. Say you ran an ariticle submission site. People could use these articles on their sites and its gets the author a backlink. Or that is how I read about it.

    But now you have three sites with the same content. What do search engines and directories think about that?

    Search engines will most likely treat it as duplicate content and may only choose to show 1 article in the search results. The others will still be indexed but just filtered from the serps.

    Goto G search enigne and type Directory or Premium directory or web directory, and hit search, you will see the top 10 directories in frist page.
    You can decide which top 5 you want to submit to. :)

    @cadillactight, good catch.

    Also regarding top 5 - you should consider having a look in both PageRank of the directories and their appearance in the SERP's. Higher PR may mean that the directory has more returning visitors as it would have good content.
    Higher SERP position would mean that when a customer goes in G and types "toys directory" ... they will go to the top 1, 2 or 3 and try to find a site that fits them there. So high PR means more direct-hits-traffic to the dir, and higher SERP means more organic traffic to the directory.

    Best,
    Wisher
