Just like anything else you try to make money at... if you are the best at whatever it is (including affiliate programs), you can make a lot of money.

You can make much more money with affiliate programs than with adsense
The secret is to target niche areas and to work hard

Agreed. Unless you are super talented SEO company you will want to stay away from the highly competitive areas. If you find good niche' markets you will do very well

    Yeah!

Anybody can make money from Affiliate Programs. But the only ones that are most likely to succeed are the ones that have good tactics and stick at it.

If you do not stick at it and expect to be making a few thousand in a few days then you are just in dream world.

You have to spend time and learn alot of stuff about affiliate programs, marketing, seo, web site designing, etc.

If you learn this then you can start making money after about one or two years. At first you will not make much, but after a while you could be making enough to leave your job depending on how many hours you put into it and how well you do it.

    First, define "rich." ;)

Yep, you can make good money with affiliate programs if you have good knowledge of SEO, HTML/PHP, creativity, and the drive to use all of the above relentlessly.

Most successful affiliates in today's affiliate game have extensive programming experience. This is not to say that you cannot make a good living as an affiliate marketer if you are not a strong programmer but it definetely helps. Look for strong Niche's where you have vast experiences with the products or services. This way you will be able to at least generate a lot of good content

probably not very good if you're looking only at stats. I'd imagine that of people who get into affiliate marketing, maybe 1/300 actually make enough to live on. This is just a guess, but you get my point. Most people try it for a while and then quit. But this of course doesn't take ... you - into account :)

You are definately right about programming.

I know quite a bit of programming and if I didn't then I would be where I am today. If I need something changed or want to do something extra on my sites then it will take me anywhere from a few minutes to a day depending on how bigger the task is.

But without it I probably wouldn't be where I am today.

All of my sites I have written from notepad from scatch. So far I have not used any templates, just notepad.

Learning this way has been hard, but has given me an advantage as if anything goes wrong with my site then all I have to do is edit it using notepad and I will quickly be able to find most mistakes rather quickly as I know what to look for in the raw html or php code.

Hi, my name is garlicbread and I am a newbie. My son and I just built our first website. We spent a month researching what to put on it before we started. I am VERY new to all of this. I understand that a person needs a niche, but at the same time, shouldn't I diversify a little, i.e., on my site I have 8 pages. 2 of them I am an affiliate for amazon, 2 affiliate for clickbank, 2 freebies and 2 businesses. Is this too wide? Yes and "rich" is definately a perception. In my case "rich" would be 1K a month, because I don't have any bills.

Amazon is something that I wouldn't personally choose if you are only targeted a few merchants products.

If you had something like a large product price comarison then you would want them as the more products that you offer then the better your price comparison site would be, but for something like what you are doing I wouldn't really use them as Amazon is so widely used that it is probably a little harder to generate sales with them than some other merchants.

Also I heard that Amazon uses one day cookies or something and doesn't pay that much of a commission.

So I would prefer an affiliate program that pays more per commission and also has something like a 30 day cookie.

The problem is that I feel very strongly about the products I am promoting thru amazon. I looked at becoming an affiliate directly from the authors sites, but they don't offer an affiliate program.
